House Okays $225 Million For Israel’s Iron Dome

If Democrats wanted $225 for healthcare, for the homeless, or for unemployment benefits, they wouldn’t get it form this Congress. But money to help Israel fight its wars is never a problem.

U.S. lawmakers united in support of Israel on Friday with the Senate approving another $225 million for the Iron Dome missile defense system.

The House followed Friday night by voting 395-8 in favor of the measure.

Senate approval came as the chamber wrapped up work before going on its five-week summer recess.

The United States helped Israel create the missile defense system, which is credited with shooting down Hamas rockets in the current Gaza conflict.

“We could not go out for a month or five weeks and not act to help the Israelis replenish their supply of Iron Dome missiles,” GOP Sen. John McCain of Arizona told reporters.

But they can go out forever and not help refugee children.

        But, we sure can go for eight months of not extending unemployment for people who need it! Guns, not butter.

    I am frequently annoyed by conservatives saying we should stop with all our foreign aid. When you mention that Israel is the biggest receiver of our largess it is suddenly a different story. Freaking hypocrites.

    As an update, according to Reuters’, the House did pass a $694 million border security bill on Friday. But it’s moot. Obama has indicated he will veto it because it would change the Bush era law protecting young refugees fleeing war zones. It was all show, no go!
    ————————————————————————Seems to me this defensive system saves lives, on both sides. So, Alan, are you suggesting we allow Israel to run out of Iron Dome rockets?

      Considering, Wikipedia says Gazan rockets into Israel have killed 28 people, though I think that’s low, other sources say 64; whereas,
      The current offensive against Gaza has killed 63 Israelis. The IDF would save the same number of lives as all the rocket attacks ever, just by not holding this one “war”;
      so yeah, let them.

      given a choice between funding unemployment benefits to enable American citizens to put a roof over their heads, or footing the bill so that Israel will not run out of rockets, I say let the Israelis pay for their own damn rockets.

        While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, my question is to Alan, not you.

    Alan, if you friends at Hamas would stop raining missiles on Israel, we wouldn’t need to send Israel money for Iron Dome. Like not even a dollar.
