Twice As Many Americans Blame Hamas Than Israel For Violence

Nearly twice as many say Hamas is responsible for the violence than they do Israel, with 40% of Americans blaming Hamas, and 19% Israel.

The Pew survey conducted from July 24-27 shows that 60 percent of Republicans say Hamas is most responsible for the current violence, while less than half of that percentage of Democrats (29 percent) agree with Hamas’ responsibility.
Overall, 28 percent of Americans polled said they don’t know who is to blame and 14 percent blame both sides for the continuing violence that has left thousands dead in recent weeks.

We tend largely to live by the philosophy, “Don’t start none, won’t be none.”

So who started it? Are you talking started in 2014 or 1967? Too convoluted a situation for a one sentence cliche.

I’ll go for 2100 BC and blame it on Abraham for siring Ishmael in the first place.

Well there ya go! I KNEW the Bible/Quran stories fit into this conflict somewhere. Somehow, it seems more wars are started in the name of religion that for any other reason.

I thought everyone knew the story of Abraham and Ishmael. That’s why both Judaism and Islam both count themselves as sons of Abraham.

If you take the long view, it is Israels fault, for years of oppression. Take the short, view it is Hamas for firing rockets. It is both of their faults, just depends on how you want to look at it. What needs to happen, is to quit trying to assign blame and figure out how to get people to live together. Oppression is bad and violence against oppressors is bad. Stopping the oppression would probably be a good first step. It must must be followed up by a cessation of hostilities. There must be balance.

Israel needs to show good faith and Palestine needs to step up and take control of Hamas before more are killed. There is a reason why Egypt has closed it’s access point to Gaza.

Palestine will not “step up” to “control” Hamas as long as Hamas is the only group with the capacity to inflict harm on the oppressor.
Reality check – If your local Crips were the only people with weaponry in your town that was surrounded and blockaded -; kept from getting medical supplies, food, clothing and goods, water cut off, electricity only for 1 to 2 hrs a day, no heat except for fire wood and no shelter except for bombed buildings and tents…Tell me, would you try to “step up” and “:control” the ONLY people that actually have the capability to fight back?

I will add, if the world community actually forced Israel’s Knesset & dictator (Netanyahu is actually becoming that), forcing them to stop the blockade to Gaza and to the Palestinian people; gave them a voice in their own lives and actually stopped trying to drive the Palestinians into abject poverty and starvation, then Hamas would not even have a foothold

    Boy, Hypocrisy is spelled U-S-A.
    (a) The biggest world’s biggest cheerleaders for Democracy are saying “Get rid of Hamas your democratically elected government or Israel we will keep killing you”
    (b) The advice that “You shouldn’t have elected crazies to run your country” is coming from a place that nearly elected John McCain and Sarah Palin. Wow.

    • edmeyer_able July 30th, 2014 at 13:27

I’m not defending Israel in any sense. Both sides are attacking a civilian population, and that needs to end.

      • mea_mark July 30th, 2014 at 13:31

Wouldn’t it be nice if the leaders had to go out and fight themselves in hand-to-hand combat? There sure would be a lot less wars.
