33% Say Impeach And Remove Obama In CNN Poll

Posted by | July 25, 2014 08:19 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

A third of Americans have no idea what they’re talking about.

…according to the poll, only 35% want Obama impeached, with nearly two-thirds saying the President should not be removed from office.

There’s an obvious partisan divide, with 57% of Republicans but only 35% of independents and 13% of Democrats backing a move to impeach Obama.

“Anti-impeachment sentiment is roughly where it was for past presidents – 67% opposed Bill Clinton’s impeachment in September 1998, and 69% opposed impeaching George W. Bush when a few Democrats began talking about it in 2006,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

given all the crap that’s been thrown against the Obama wall, by FOX , talk radio, and the Wall Street Journal/NY Post these numbers shouldn’t surprise.

I have to wonder how many of these folks understand what constitutes impeachable offense, or is their displeasure with POTUS more party driven.

    • mea_mark July 25th, 2014 at 10:17

Probably 33% of those polled don’t know what an impeachable offense really is. Duh.

      • ChrisVosburg July 25th, 2014 at 12:17

Apparently only 2% gave the correct answer, “How the Hell should I know?”

Considering I’ve seen many conservative commentators on other boards talking about how, when it comes to impeachment, the American people need to “do something,” I’d suspect that most not only do not understand what an impeachable offense is, they also don’t understand how impeachment works.

    From the article:

” Only about one in five say that impeachment is a valid response if Congress is dissatisfied with a president’s policies or the way he is handling his job.”

ONLY? Thats 20%!!! 20% of Americans think a President should be impeached because Congress doesn’t like him!
I think this poll is a reflection of the dire status of education in this country. Sometimes I think we are like the Roman Empire – decaying from the inside as Republicans erode the tax base. Republicans fiddle taxes while America burns.

33% of people don’t understand that not liking the president isn’t an impeachable offense.

    Edited to correct %

Well the good news is that you can get about 33% of Americans to say just about anything.

This doesn’t surprise me. Most of the Republicans I know personally think it’s a high crime or misdemeanor (mostly a high crime) to disagree with them.

A third of Muricans cannot define what the Bill of Rights are, outside of their religious gun fetishes.

“13% of Democrats backing a move to impeach Obama.”

    No true Scotsman, right?

    • M A G July 25th, 2014 at 10:18

Democrats tend not to walk in lockstep. We’re a diverse bunch.

    • mea_mark July 25th, 2014 at 10:20

There are still some racist democrats out there. It doesn’t really make sense but this is America today.

The private American Research Group survey indicated 45 percent want the president impeached while 54 percent want the House to launch impeachment proceedings against Vice President Dick Cheney.

The breakdown of the 1,100 respondents, however, showed 38 percent were Democrats, 29 percent Republicans and 33 percent independents.

The poll indicated 69 percent of Democrats favored impeaching Bush while just 13 percent of Republicans showed support. Among independents, 50 percent wanted to impeach the president.

We knew they would want to impeach the Democratic president in 2007, whether it was Hillary or Obama.

I would of loved to have them ask “okay, and impeached for what exactly?”, then this poll would show how these who are questioned really “think”.

    • mfr4 July 25th, 2014 at 11:44

I agree completely. While I don’t think he’s been a brilliant president he has accomplished some good things both in both foreign and domestic policy to go with some failures (I’m guessing a pretty average record). But what, precisely, has he done to be impeached? The American political system is in chaos and deadlock, impeaching a president would make it even worse.

      For what?
      Well,
      President-ing while Black!!
      of course!!

Boehners phony lawsuit is just a trial run at impeachment. They will wait until after the elections and hope they win the Senate.
