The strike on a school being used as a shelter killed and injured multiple civilians. Israel first blamed Hamas, but then acknowledged that Israeli Defense Forces had the coordinates for the school.

“Many have been killed — including women and children, as well as U.N. staff” according to a statement issued by Ban Ki-moon, the U.N. secretary-general. Footage shows pools of blood at the scene. Ban, who was traveling in Iraq on Thursday, said he was “appalled” by the violence.

It’s unclear who was behind the strike. The Israeli military said it was “reviewing” the incident and told CNN that a rocket fired from Gaza could have been responsible. Sometimes, rockets from Gaza fall and explode, and that could have been the case here, the military said.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said it is “in the midst of combat, with Hamas terrorists in the area of Beit Hanoun, who are using civilian infrastructure and international symbols as human shields. In the course of the afternoon, several rockets launched by Hamas from within the Gaza Strip landed in the Beit Hanoun area.”

But shortly after the strike, Gunness tweeted that the coordinates of the shelter had been given to the Israeli military and that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency had twice tried to coordinate with the Israeli military to evacuate the civilians at the shelter.

It bears repeating: Israel uses missiles to defend its children. Hamas uses children to defend its missiles.

It can all end if Hamas accepts and honors a cease fire; but they won’t, they’re terrorists and they don’t want peace, they want death to all Jews and Christians.

proof is in the pudding. Or in this case, the Shrapnel. And even though they were showing it all day on CNN, Have not seen one bomb crater. And better yet, why is the place not destroyed. Everything still looks all in its place… I may be wrong, but I smell a rat.

Am I the only one who finds the phrase “women and children” a bit dated, and not very flattering to women? Fully one third of the soldiers in the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) are women, as are half of its officers. Some of the Israeli strikes could have been ordered or executed by women, and some of the Palestinian rockets could have been launched by women. Does anyone think that this battle is being fought exclusively by men on either side?

The phrase “women and children” seems to suggest that all women are just as innocent and helpless as children, and that all men are less worthy of compassion than women. Perhaps it’s time for those who believe in gender equality to retire the phrase “women and children”.
