Brooklyn Bridge Mystery: American Flags Replaced With White Flags

The New York Police Department is stumped, and stunned.

“I’m not particularly happy about the event,” said Police Commissioner William J. Bratton, whose officers evidently missed something overnight.

Surveillance footage shows a group crossing the bridge around 3:10 a.m., shortly before the lights illuminating the flags on both towers went out, said John Miller, the Police Department’s deputy commissioner of counterterrorism. What appeared to be large aluminum pans, like those to cook lasagna for a crowd, had apparently been used to cover the lights.

Those responsible probably had some climbing experience, perhaps even on bridges, Mr. Miller said.

“At this time, no particular nexus to terrorism or politics,” he said. “This could be someone’s art project or someone’s statement. We’re just not clear what that statement is.”

Still no word on who did it, or why.

We should blame Obama, just to be on the safe side…

Maybe they came from the Republican Party reflecting their policy towards Putin.

    Was it a French holiday?

      Bastille day last week!
French army tanks are built with 7 gears – 6 of them are reverse – they have one going forward in case they are attacked from the rear.

Yeah, we get it, the old “cheese-eating surrender monkeys” trope, you want freedom fries with that?

I don’t think this is quite fair to the plucky French who fought alongside the allies as best they could, especially considering the previous WW having decimated their soldier-age populace. In fact the French suffered more casualties in the war than did the Americans, and that includes the civilians who died in the numerous Nazi bombathons.

And yet they fought on, as the free french, even after Germany captured the flag, except for the embarrassing Vichy bunch, which let’s don’t even talk about. And few would say that the French Underground didn’t acquit themselves well.

So c’mon, RJ, quit hatin’ on the Frogs. C’est ne pas vrai!

I find it interesting that these flags were bleached to be white. My guess is, that this is some kind of symbolic statement to be followed up with something later. A lot of effort and planning went into this for some reason.

…As NYPD Detectives descend on the city’s restaurant supply houses to inquire, “so, sell a bunch of lasagne pans to anyone lately?”

the statement started when someone base jumped off the freedom tower. The white flag suggests to me that nothing still hasn’t changed ( post 911 ) with security.
