That’s good. What this country needs is more Walmarts and fewer trees. As Ronald Reagan told us long ago, trees are a major source of air pollution. Oh, how I miss Ronnie, walking on water, feeding the poor and healing the sick.

Remember that environmental guru named James Watt who was Reagan’s Interior Secretary? He was a piece of work!

I was reminded of this line from Terry Gilliam’s wonderful “Twelve Monkeys:”

Dr. Peters: I think, Dr. Railly, you have given your “alarmists” a bad name. Surely there is very real and very convincing data that the planet cannot survive the excesses of the human race: proliferation of atomic devices, uncontrolled breeding habits, the rape of the environment, the pollution of land, sea, and air. In this context, isn’t it obvious that “Chicken Little” represents the sane vision and that Homo Sapiens’ motto, “Let’s go shopping!” is the cry of the true lunatic?

There is when priorities are shown, pretty pathetic.

“Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.”

Your anger is pointed in the wrong direction. You should be addressing this towards the University of Miami, A developer is going to Develop, that is what they are in business to do. The fact that UM has opted to sell this property is the issue.

I think there’s room enough to be mad at both parties. But, you’re right. UofM should have found another way to make money or manage the land without selling to this group. Also, there’s room for anger at the county government that has approved the plan.

Good point. Both are to blame.
Where I live, WalMart tried to put one-a those superstores right next to Ferry Farm, where George Washington lived and threw the coin across the Rappahannock. They ended up putting a smaller one in about a quarter mile away. Orange County was barely able to keep one off a Civil War battlefield.

UM is probably more corrupt then walmart

You know that forest you were worried about disappearing?

    Your worries are over.

Welcome to Rick Scott’s Florida where everything, especially the governor, is for sale and if some butterflies get decimated in the process, oh, well, they can’t make campaign contributions. Que sera sera.

Getting a little off topic but a trailer for 12 monkeys series http://www.geekexchange.com/12-monkeys-first-trailer-for-the-syfy-series-126815.html movie was great, I hope the series lives up to it.

    • ChrisVosburg July 17th, 2014 at 18:20

Judging from the trailer alone, it looks sort of, I dunno, cheap, in that inimitable SyFy-TV-Movie-way. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

If liberal voters do not get off the internet and do some serious social work to change the population in congress, our country may very well face irreversible harm.

When I lived in White House, Tennessee, the mayor fought tooth and nail to protect the local businesses by keeping Walmart out.

Their lawyer sneeringly told him: “You won’t always be mayor… but we’ll always be Walmart.”

He was right. Walmart eventually got their way, building right off the freeway in town and sucked up most of the business from the local business owners.
