‘Traditional Family Values’ Congressman Properly Deals With Pregnancy Of 17-Year-Old Unmarried Daughter
A physician and father of three, Bill supports Louisiana’s traditional family values. Faith and religion have played a vital role throughout the United States’ history, and it is important that this is recognized and respected. Our Founders were men and women of strong convictions. Their intent and vision was for America to be a place where individuals could practice their religion and express their beliefs freely and openly. This visionis codified in our Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
He wisely got ahead of the story by announcing his support of his daughter.
Cassidy, a Republican congressman from Baton Rouge, said in a statement provided NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune that his daughter faces “a more challenging future” and that she has his and his wife Laura’s unconditional support. The baby is expected later this summer.
Much like Sarah Palin, who announced that her own unmarried 17-year-old daughter was expecting just before she addressed the Republican National Convention as John McCain’s surprise 2008 vice presidential selection, the Cassidy campaign chose to pre-emptively disclose the information about their daughter’s pregnancy.
The Cassidy campaign provided this statement:
“Earlier this year, Laura and I learned we will become grandparents this summer. Our children have been the greatest blessing of our lives and we welcome our grandchild as a joyous addition to our family. Our daughter now faces a more challenging future than her peers. She has our unconditional love and support.”
As a person of means, the Cassidy family is able to welcome their beautiful new grandchild upon birth. But what if it were less-educated, and less economically stable family with fewer options. Would the Cassidys support the abortion choice for those with less means?

The sullen point here is the failure of the Abstinence only programs. Perhaps, well instructed to use protection, the young Miss Cassidy would not have been facing “a more challenging future than her peers”. Which, I would surmise, would still not be anywhere near as challenging as one faced by other pregnant teens.
