Gallup: Congressional Approval Rating Lowest Ever: 16%

Posted by | June 16, 2014 11:16 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

Gallup shows that Americans have a “throw the bums out” mentality and that the demise of Eric Cantor is the first of many. And demise will occur in both parties.

The polling giant’s warning is being echoed by another influential Hill watcher, University of Virginia’s Larry Sabato, whose “Crystal Ball” newsletter has just put Democrats on the hit list. He suggests that House Republicans could pick up five to eight seats and Senate Republicans up to eight seats, giving them a majority.

Gallup said that the congressional approval rating has dropped to 16 percent, the lowest since the ratings began in 1974. For comparison, that is lower than the 22 percent approval rating in 1994, when Republicans broke decades of Democratic rule to win the House majority, and the 26 percent rating in 2006, when Democrats took back control.

Passing the least legislation in US history coincides with both record low 1994 & 2014 GOP controlled congresses (Gallup omitted 9% congressional approval in 2011). Polls prove a bipartisan 2/3 to 3/4 favor legislation combating global warming climate change. The most important issue we face today is to rapidly implement clean renewable energy to quickly phase out fossil fuels causing 80% of modern global warming. Who is against clean air, water & ending $6 Trillion oil wars? A: Only the Greedy Oil Party’s parent company Big Oil Inc.

Polls support global warming policies coincide only when gasoline prices are at record lows. When the collapse of Iraq results in a Islamic caliphate of Iran Iraq and Syria and gasoline hits $8/gal those same people with say wtf and screw climate change.

Big Oil always gouges consumers with prices always rising decade over decade. That’s why POTUS Obama increased fuel economy averages to 55 MPG by 2025. These are the first EPA mileage efficiency increases since POTUS Clinton’42’s 1993 laws. $8/gal gasoline is as inevitable as $18/gal. Plug-in hybrids and electric continue to gain market share because 78% commute 38 miles or less daily. http://gm-volt.com/2007/12/06/how-did-gm-determine-that-78-of-commuters-drive-less-than-40-miles-per-day/

        • Justin Volke V June 17th, 2014 at 15:13

So big oil is gouging us? The average total profit of the oil companies is about 12 cents per gallon. The all in taxes on a gallon of gas averages 78 cents/gallon. Just who is really gouging us at the pump? Compared to the 30% markup of a cup of Starbucks coffee I’d say big oil is the Good Samaritan.
Hybrids and new cafe standards will force automakers to use exotic materials to lighten the car while still maintaining crash worthiness. So the price of cars will rise and we trade oil company profits for automakers gouging us with higher prices.

Big Oil pays less than $0 in US Federal income taxes receiving 101.5% Average tax credits for the oil industry as a whole. Forwarding consumer paid gas taxes to D.C. isn’t ‘Paying U.S. federal income taxes.’ Today’s gas taxes don’t even cover paying for truckers damage and other roadway & Bridge maintenance, let alone rebuilding roads, bridges & tunnels.

You didn’t realize US Gasoline is subsidized by $8 trillion+ since GHWB’s 1988! Don’t forget to add in GWB / Halliburton Cheney’s $6 T faux Iraq oil war leaving record low everything since (R) Hoover’s Great Depression.

A tiny portion of as much as $2 T in current fossil fuel subsidies detailed here http://priceofoil.org/fossil-fuel-subsidies/ “production subsidies for the fossil fuel industry are likely topping $2 trillion each year amounting to 2.5% of total gross domestic product for 2012.” http://www.worldwatch.org/system/files/MintPress-EnergySubsidiesVSO-012014.pdf

ExxonMobil shelled out 30 billion in federal income taxes the last two years. I don’t know where you get less than zero from. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/personalfinance/2013/03/17/companies-paying-highest-income-taxes/1991313/

As a multinational it also pays billions in taxes to other countries as well. But whatever profit big oil makes on a gallon of gas federal state and local governments make even more. But in the end no corporation ever pays income taxes. The consumer pays ALL TAXES. Either directly or hidden in the cost of the goods. Subsidies to big oil only help keep gas affordable.

You fell for the foreign taxes paid scam:) *Actual Taxes Paid to U.S. federal government: $1.5 billion (2% on $73.3 B net income after generous deductions on 2011’s $428 B revenue)

*Actual Taxes Paid to U.S. federal government: $1.5 billion (2% on net income after generous deductions)

->Exxon paid $1.5 billion to the U.S. federal government in 2011 and deferred paying an additional $1.6 billion. It paid the majority of its taxes to foreign governments where it operates ($28.8 billion). http://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/investing/2012/corporate-taxes-only-9-percent/

Your 2013 USA Today articles are written for 5th grade reading level and are frequently debunked as inaccurate e.g. citing ‘Exxon’s 2011’ as if it were 2012/most recent.

I fail to see why this is getting your panties in a bunch. Corporations pay zero taxes. All the time and everywhere. Consumers pay the taxes on the cost of the products. The corporations only serve as collection agencies. I wish they didn’t have to pay the government a penny and divert it to shareholders. Last time I checked most of my 401k and 403 b mutual funds were heavily invested in oil stocks and are doing quite well. Drill baby drill.

Why the as hominem attacks ? And corporations don’t pay taxes. Not Exxon , not Microsoft, not GE, not the New York Times, or Sony or GM. Consumers pay ALL TAXES. When you raise taxes on corporations they simply pass it on to consumers in the form of higher prices. How can I make this any simpler for you to understand? What big oil pays in taxes is totally irrelevant. But when it comes to giving then subsidies government is guilty as charged. That’s why we shouldn’t have government in bed with big business. There shod never be a company too big to fail. That’s why we broke up Bell Telephone. That’s why we should have never bailed out a single bank or GM or Chrysler. If they were mismanaged they should have failed. It would be a lesson to all other corporations to be more careful.
Tell me, are you just jealous that they make more money than you ? Envy is one of the seven deadly sins. Along with sloth which is why most people don’t make a lot of money and then become mired in two deadly sins.

I know because I self-founded my first successful IT corp while in college, doubling sales annually in 9 out of 11 years, selling my first firm at age 32. I then founded two more IT firms rapidly redoubling my prior successes within five years. You’re puny IRA isn’t squat vs any SEP IRA annually deferred $50K. • Justin Volke V June 18th, 2014 at 02:12

Maybe you should be asking ISIS if this is about oil or ideology.
Your question is a false premise. It assumes the us uses as much blood as it does oil. Since we consume more gallons of oil in one day than all of the blood spilled in all of our wars in the entire history of the country. You might as well asked about gallons of air we breath or gallons of paint we use.
Your question mocks the sacrifice of our men by comparing them to barbarians like ISIS that kill for religion. The crusades ended hundreds of years ago. The rest of the world evolved past it. They haven’t.

We should not be surprised Congress has lowest rating of all years. The problems
with Repubs and TPs in Congress are they operate on racism. They are surprised the Commander-in- Chief is a racial minority. They were raised to believe were superior to racial minorities. They are now in a mental shock as what happened. So they go to work
just to fight President Obama initiatives. These morons don’t know by fighting the President, they hurting themselves and their families. Look Eric Cantor is now out commission. Cantor, Ryan and Cruz had conspiracy to derail Obamacare. They lost. The government shut-down hurt VA hospitals and businesses. Thank God Cantor is out. We are waiting to get rid of Ryan.

    • Justin Volke V June 16th, 2014 at 21:29

So Obama is perfect. He can make no poor judgement. He can make no mistakes. Because to call him out on any mistake makes you a racist. Even when he mispronounces “corpse men” despite being commander in chief, to say anything about it makes you racist.
No wonder he has violated the provisions of so many laws that he signed himself. He can hide behind his skin color and false allegations of racism.
In fact after he leaves office and the county 10 times worse off than the mess he inherited from GWB. Any attorney to blame him will be labeled a racist comment. Ah the soft bigotry of low expectations. I guess we should have never expected him to be as good as a white president. Then we wouldn’t have been so disappointed on him.

      • pmbalele June 16th, 2014 at 22:08

I think you answered yourself. Cantor, Ryan, Cruz and other TPs in
Congress caused Boston, Benghazi, fertilizer plant explosions, VA problems and now Iraq. Tell me why we went to Iraq the 2nd time. These morons, driven by racism, cut funds. Wait a minute, don’t you remember in 2008 the country was bankrupt – melt-down? GM had folded, unemployment was high, and CEOs including Romney had invested in China and banked in Swiss banks, leaving banks here without money. In fact the government shut itself down. Now we have 6% unemployment, the economy is growing despite these morons fighting initiatives by President Obama. Please don’t vote for them in November. Let them go back to their mothers to be re-weaned-this time well.

      • Judy Mccracken June 17th, 2014 at 22:51

NoBODY claimed Pres O was Perfect…. or that he could not make mistakes…. but God knows that man has been dogged, on EVERY FRIGGING MOVE he has made…. notice you didnt elaborate on ALL HE HAS VIOLATED, but couldnt pass up the “mispronounced” word…… We dont call folks like that racist… just stupid…..

        • Justin Volke V June 18th, 2014 at 10:20

Every president is dogged as you say every friggin moment they are in office by the opposition. Race has nothing to do with it. But this racist card is truly overplayed. He is given a pass by the press for fear of it. The fourth estate had become the fifth column.
Nixon resigned because of 18 minutes of erased tapes. The irs loses two years of emails that hide presidential tampering of free speech and he gets a pass? Freud said sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. It isn’t racism.
