It would be in the best interest of the country if the prisoners at Guantanamo were released as per international law at the end of conflict and before the next presidential administration takes over. The last thing this country needs, is for this to be an ongoing perpetual issue. Congress has made this process very complicated and should, in the interest of the country, make this process uncomplicated. It is time to put aside the partisanship on this issue.

Remember just a few weeks ago when right wingers told us that picking up a gun was the duty of every patriot, regardless of what the law says? (think Cliven Bundy)

How much do you want to wager that if those guns were carried by militia formed by leftists, farmworkers, union members, Latinos and African Americans converging in Washington DC, and pointed at a House of Representatives attempting to impeach a twice-elected President, right wingers would be singing a different tune about the role of guns in influencing government.

Unlikely to happen in real life, but I hereby give notice that I am copyrighting this as an idea for a short story, or maybe a screenplay.

According the George Bush, if you pen a signing statement, that law then doesn’t apply to you. So President Obama is in the clear.
