President ‘Madder Than Hell’

The White House Chief of Staff says President Obama is “madder than hell” at the Veterans Administration scandal. He spoke to CBS’s Major Garrett.

DENIS McDONOUGH: ..the President is madder than hell, and I’ve got the scars to prove it given, briefings that I’ve given the President and the conversations that he and Rick and I have had on these matters…but at the same time that we’re looking at accountability we want to continue to perform to provide our veterans the services that they have earned, 40 billion dollars and assistance for the GI bill,14 percent increase in, spending on the veterans’ health administration, 16 percent increase in the number of veterans getting care, through the veterans’ health administration. These are all the kinds of investments that the president believes strongly we have to make, that’s why he’s fought for them on the hill and he’ll continue to fight for them.

MAJOR GARRETT: The Washington Post described Secretary Shinseki’s performance yesterday before the Senate committee as “maddeningly passive,” was the President satisfied with the Veterans Secretary’s performance, not only in that testimony, but overall?

DENIS McDONOUGH: We don’t score testimony on Capitol Hill or otherwise, what we score is results as it relates to the services and the benefits that our vets have earned, and we’ve seen dramat-from this administration, historic increases in the budgets year on year…we have seen obviously the reports out of places like Phoenix and Fort Collins, and North Carolina and we’re going to get to the bottom of those things, fix them and ensure that they don’t happen again.

What are the issues? In a nutshell it’s government bureaucrats running a healthcare system. I mean really, hasn’t the many failures of Obamacare so far given you some insight into this issue?

The continued underfunding of Veterans medical health care administration is the problem; period.

And the House controls the purse strings…the House is controlled by Republicans, who claim to support the troops. Yet they underfund the VA, which means that their actions don’t match their words.

        Exactly.

The House needs to support the troops in other ways than just supplying them guns and ammo.

As noted in the link the bill is $1.4 billion LESS than the President requested LAST YEAR!

Do Presidents always get what they ask for? No. Let’s see; do unions ask for more than they settle on? Yes How well received was the
Obama budget with over 1 trillion in new spending? The fact is that VA funding has increased every year. My first comment above has a comment from El Presidente about housing vouchers for vets. Go under a bridge or two in D.C. and ask those vets how that’s workiing out.

No, the VA is getting plenty of money. It’s the incompetent people employed by the Obama administration that is the problem. But anyway, this is what government healthcare looks like and should be the death knell for any talk about a single payer health care system.

You’re a lock step tea party birther racist that tows the party before nation/ party before Veteran line. Shame on you, you suck as an American.

This is what happens when veterans are subjected to Randian cheap-labor economic doctrine: “Thank you for your service, now die, and die quickly.”

“As President, I won’t stand for hundreds of thousands of veterans waiting for benefits. We’ll hire additional claims workers,” Obama said. “We’ll bring together veterans groups and the VA to work out a claims process that is fair and fast. And instead of shutting veterans out, we’ll make sure that our disabled vets receive the benefits they deserve, and we’ll allow all veterans back into the VA health care system. And we’ll have a simple policy when it comes to homeless veterans: zero tolerance. We’ll expand housing vouchers. We’ll set up a new supportive services program to prevent at-risk veterans and their families from sliding into homelessness. We’ll stand with veterans in their hour of need, just as they have stood up for us.” — Sen. Barack Obama, Oct 2007

He’s always “madder then hell” about everything and he never hears about this kind of stuff until he reads it in the newspapers either. And I’ll bet that no person of stature will be held accountable either, in fact the person responsible will probably get a promotion.
