Diana Humetewa was confirmed by the Senate Tuesday night as the first Native American federal judge.

Humetewa was confirmed 96-0 to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. She is a former U.S. attorney in Arizona and a member of the Hopi tribe. She is now the first active member of a Native American tribe to serve on the federal bench and only the third Native American in history to do so…

The National Congress of American Indians also celebrated Humetewa’s achievement.

“NCAI greatly appreciates the efforts of the President and Senate in achieving this historic confirmation,” the organization said in a statement. “There are many qualified, talented people like Diane Humetewa in Indian Country who are able and willing to serve. We eagerly anticipate many more nominations of Native people to the federal bench and other offices.”

Reading this I got to thinking about some of the criticism Obama gets from the left for not getting anything done or not doing enough. Yet the list of his accomplishments continue to grow, the change we can plainly see, the benefits of those changes is nothing short of phenomenal. In the face of absolute obstruction from the right, the ACA has made millions free of abandonment, millions are free from unemployment and financial ruin, we are almost free from war,(keeping fingers crossed), minorities are finally being recognized as leaders, this nomination shows that, state after state are recognizing marriage equality. There is a lot that needs to be done, but there is a lot to be thankful for. I have a feeling Ms Humetewa will be a fantastic judge.
All the right has is some sort of mystical conspiracy fantasy about Benghazi that somehow, gets intertwined with everything.
