Romney Strategy: Play The Victim

Mitt Romney’s campaign figured out that playing the victim of secular culture and the “liberal press” endears him to the people he needs to attract.

Mark DeMoss, a Romney adviser and the campaign’s ambassador to evangelical groups, compared [Hilary] Rosen’s words about Ann Romney to the criticisms of football star Tim Tebow, who became a sensation in part because of his very public expression of his evangelical faith.

“Any perceived or real attack on Tim Tebow would result in making him, endearing him even more to people of faith,” DeMoss said. “I think it’s just a human reaction. If somebody you like or identify with is attacked, it strengthens your support and love and admiration for the person who was attacked.”

DeMoss continued: “The attack always energizes the person that was attacked or the people who like the person who was attacked.”
