Usually, a governor greets a president when a president visits the governor’s state, and although Scott Walker greeted President Obama at the airport, Walker won’t attend a speech the president is giving.

Obama landed in Milwaukee Wednesday morning, where he was by greeted Walker and Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett on the tarmac at General Mitchell Airport.

But Walker, citing stomach flu, said he would not accompany the president to Obama’s planned lunchtime speech at the Master Lock Company, the world’s largest manufacturer of padlocks.

Walker insisted it was not politics keeping him away from the speech.

“If it was politics, I wouldn’t have greeted him here,” Walker said, after handing the president a Milwaukee Brewers jersey.
