We don’t even a have a Republican nominee yet, but they’re floating names for cabinet appointments.

Newt Gingrich received a standing ovation from the audience at a Republican Jewish Coalition meeting on Wednesday for promising to appoint John Bolton to be secretary of state if elected president.

The former House Speaker pledged to appoint Bolton, the controversial former ambassador to the United Nations for President George W. Bush, to the top diplomatic post if he were elected.

Mitt Romney says he’d name cabinet officials before the election so they could face off with current cabinet officials.

“The answer is yes,” Romney said in response to a question on whether he would consider nominating someone such as former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani to be his attorney general so that individual could challenge Attorney General Eric Holder.
