Wisconsin Democrats Keep Their Seats In Recall Elections

Democrats Robert Wirch (right) and Jim Holperin (left) won recall elections after Republicans tried to shove them out for leaving the state to stop an anti-union law from being passed.

Wirch and Holperin were defending their seats in a special election Tuesday. Holperin had 54 percent of the vote against 46 percent for Republican challenger Kim Simac in his district with 78 percent of precincts reporting, Wispolitics.com said.

With 100 percent of the vote counted in his district, Wirch held 58 percent of the vote against 42 percent for Republican challenger Jonathan Steitz, the web site said.
