Councilman worries about a “minority becoming a majority”

…Councilman Reed Williams, an Anglo Republican from the North Side… said he took pride in working on an inclusive and deliberative council.

“This action feels different to me,” he said. “It feels like a political majority is pushing its will, and it doesn’t have to.”

That wasn’t wrong in itself, but then a few minutes later, after a riff about what Chavez would think, Williams said this: “The political majority should concern us all, particularly for a group of folks that have been in the minority that are moving to a majority. We must be sure that everyone that does that understands the absolute responsibility that comes with being in the majority.”

That would’ve been OK if Williams had only added: “I know my own people have often fallen short on that score, and that good people have been hurt by that.”

But he didn’t, and it was a glaring omission…
