Ladies and gentlemen, we got him! It took 9 years, 7 months, and 20 days, but Osama bin Laden is dead! Alan already posted the details of his demise; I want to talk about what this means, and what it doesn’t mean.

Bin Laden’s death does not mean that the war against al Qaeda is over, nor does it change how Americans should view the war in Afghanistan. In fact, 92% of young Afghan men do not know anything about the September 11th attacks. The Afghanistan war is still pointless, and we still need to leave, because al Qaeda is no longer there.

Bin Laden’s death also does not bring back the 3,000 Americans who lost their lives during the 9-11 attacks, but it does mean justice has finally been served. The families of those victims will never be whole again, but those families can finally rest assured that the man, the mass murderer, the monster most responsible for the death of their loved ones, has finally paid the ultimate price for his evil cruelty.

Finally, bin Laden’s death deals a critical psychological blow to al Qaeda, and is a game-changing morale boost for our troops. This is a major victory for the Obama administration militarily and politically. But more importantly, this is a wonderful victory for ALL Americans who love this country. In the spirit of that sentiment, I have a couple of requests for the comments section.

First off, please no partisan political potshots. There are times for ideological bickering, but this is not one of them. It would be nice if we could all just enjoy this moment not as liberals or conservatives or Democrats or Republicans but as Americans.

Second, I would like to hear what you were doing when you first heard the news of bin Laden’s death at the end of your comment. It would be nice if we could share that information as a community here at Liberaland because this is a day that we will all remember for the rest of our lives.

I was with my friend Adi Patel in his basement, playing with his sister’s dog Fufi.
