President Obama has been unable to reach agreement with congressional Republicans, but he’s canceled travel for tomorrow and vows they’ll be working through the night to resolve issues.

“Because the machinery of the shutdown is necessarily starting to move, I expect an answer in the morning,” Obama said at the White House. “My hope is, is that I’ll be able to announce to the American people sometime relatively early in the day that a shutdown has been averted.”

Reid and Boehner issued a joint statement saying they had “narrowed the issues, however we have not yet reached an agreement.”

The sides are $7 billion apart.

Boehner is seeking cuts of $40 billion from current spending, which is $7 billion higher than the $33 billion plan lawmakers had been working to assemble.
