South Dakota Senator John Thune, a possible 2012 presidential contender, spent his Saturday rebuttal to the weekly presidential address attacking President Obama and Democrats but offered no substantial plan of his own.  Thune’s message was that the “Obama experiment has failed,” but what is the new plan? We’re waiting.

Pennsylvania Republican Mike Kelly, looking to replace Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper, was stumped when asked what cuts he would make, even though he used the word “specific” eight times (h/t Think Progress).

Moderator: Could you please tell us what specific savings; where would you find massive cuts in the federal budget?

KELLY: Sure, I’ll address that, and I’ll address it very specifically. The specifics – the specificity – is in the process. When Gov. Christie got elected in New Jersey, they asked him the same question; he says “let me get there and I’ll figure it out. Let me just do this….Absolutely, there’s stuff to be cut. What is it right now? I can’t tell you…”

California U.S. Senate Candidate Carly Fiorina couldn’t tell Chris Wallace what cuts she’d pay for tax cuts when asked repeatedly.  Conservatives have beaten up Nancy Pelosi for saying we have to pass the heath care bill to know what’s in it.  Now they’re saying, “Elect us, and we’ll then tell you what we’re going to do.”
