Virginia Beach GOP Chair Resigns After Forwarding Racist Email

What is it with Republicans and racist emails? Who does Virginia Beach Republican Chair David Bartholomew (pictured left) think he is, Carl Paladino? Gary C. Byler, the 2nd Congressional District Chairman, wants you to know that Bartholomew would never knowingly do such a thing, claiming,”Let me make it clear David Bartholomew does not tolerate racism. He never has. David would never knowingly forward racist material.”  Scott Rigell (pictured right), the Republican candidate for Congress in the 2nd District, and his opponent, Congressman Glenn Nye, called on Bartholomew to resign.

The email from Bartholomew, which was obtained by and posted on the liberal blog Blue Virginia, included a joke about someone trying to obtain welfare for their dog, who is “black, unemployed, lazy, can’t speak English and has no frigging clue who his Daddy is.” Bartholomew has not yet spoken up to say whether the message is or is not from him, but the address at the top of the email message matches the chairman’s personal address.

Blue Dog Virginia has it:

MY DOG

I went down this morning to sign up my Dog for welfare.

At first the lady said, “Dogs are not eligible to draw welfare”.

So I explained to her that my Dog is black, unemployed, lazy, can’t speak

English and has no frigging clue who his Daddy is.

So she looked in her policy book to see what it takes to qualify…

My Dog gets his first check Friday.

Is this is a great country or what?

What does “he would never knowingly” do such a thing mean? He randomly forwards emails without knowing what’s in them?
