Often, while wrapped up in political goings-on, we (and the media) ignore government actions that are far more critical. On Tuesday, EPA proposed new air pollution regulations.

The regulation will target power plant pollution that drifts across the borders of 31 eastern states and the District of Columbia. . . The transport rule would reduce power plant emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) to meet state-by-state emission reductions.

The rule would prolong 14,000-36,000 lives per year and have enormous health benefits. The costs (largely to utilities) would be $2.8 billion/year. Utilities will certainly try to water down these regulations. You can make your voice heard by commenting at regulations.gov or epa.gov.
