Color Him Father

The Winstons had one smash hit, in 1969, a Grammy-winning song that has become the National Anthem of Father’s Day. Richard Spencer headlined the Washington, DC based group, which also featured Ray Maritano, Quincy Mattison, Phil Tolotta, Sonny Peckrol, and G.C. Coleman. Mattison and Coleman had also played with Otis Redding. The Winstons became the back-up performers with the Impressions. The war theme of this masterpiece, and how it affects families, is especially relevant.
