Rep. Michele Bachmann Claims Oil Victim Escrow Fund Is “Redistribution Of Wealth”

Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann says the oil victim escrow fund amounts to a “redistribution of wealth.” Speaking to the conservative Heritage Foundation before the president’s Tuesday night speech, she opined:

The president just called for creating a fund that would be administered by outsiders, which would be more of a redistribution-of-wealth fund. And now it appears like we’ll be looking at one more gateway for more government control, more money to government. If there is a disaster, why is it that government is the one who always seems to benefit after a disaster, and that’s of course what cap-and-trade would be.

Funny that the same person who whines that the president isn’t doing enough says the government is doing too much out of the other side of her mouth. Besides, the fund would be run independently.

“We want to make sure that money is escrowed for the legitimate claims,” White House adviser David Axelrod told NBC’s “Meet the Press,” adding that the money would be independently administered to ensure it is disbursed in a timely fashion.
