“N-Word” Sign Maker Now “Tea Party Columnist” for Washington Times (Updated)

Desperate times call for desperate measure, and Dale Robertson, who regards himself the founder of the tea party, has been brought on by the financially struggling Washington Times‘s “Tea Party Report” blog.  Robertson got caught in a lie when he first was seen parading around with a misspelled sign featuring the n-word, and then claimed the work was forged. Sadly, for him, we had him on tape contradicting his denial.

Tommy Christopher, who’s been covering this charade for Mediaite, suggests this could just be another PR stunt by a guy who seems desperate for attention.

Furthermore, the press release is from Robertson’s PR flack, not the Washington Times’. It’s not even clear that this is a paid gig, rather than another attempt by Robertson to market himself as a Tea Party Leader. The Tea Party Report “is written and edited by William J. Kelly and Laura Grock. Kelly also pens Bill Kelly’s Truth Squad for the Washington Times. We welcome all Tea Party leaders and enthusiasts to send us their news, opinions, and stories.”

UPDATE: After Mediaite’s piece about this was published, the Washington Times has pulled Robertson’s column.

UPDATE 2: Robertson is now back, but with a disclaimer from the Times:

DISCLAIMER: The Tea Party Reports is edited by Bill Kelly and Laura Grock and features numerous independent voices in today’s Tea Party movement. Tea Party guest submitters are in no way affiliated with The Washington Times and do not necessarily reflect the views of any other person other than the contributor (- 5/21/2010).
