Righties, Where’s Your Secret Majority?

During my time on the internet, I am constantly bombarded by our friends on the right with warnings of “Wait until November!” The underlying theme from them is that there is a vast and secret majority just lying in wait to vote all of us Democrats and liberals out of power. I’m sure I’m not the only one getting this message.

This line started soon after President Obama’s inauguration. Unable to accept the fact that he won fair and square, the online right came alive with claims that Obama somehow hypnotized and bamboozled 53% of American voters into electing him President. They warned us supporters that “people are going to wake up to Obama” and boy won’t we be sorry when they do.

Well, I keep waiting for this “majority” of theirs to show up. No one can find a poll showing this “majority.” Every special election for a vacant House seat has gone Democratic. Of all of the Teabagger candidates the TPers have fielding even in the Republican Party, they have won precisely 3 primaries.

In fact, most polls taken shows that while people may be unhappy with Democrats and incumbents, they really don’t like or trust the Republicans at all:

Still, for President Obama and his party, there are some positive signs in the poll. The public trusts Democrats more than Republicans to handle the major problems facing the country by a double-digit margin, giving Democrats a bigger lead than they held two months ago, when Congress was engaged in the long endgame over divisive health-care legislation. A majority continues to see Obama as “just about right” ideologically, despite repeated GOP efforts to define the president as outside the mainstream.

Those polled also say they trust Obama over Republicans in Congress to deal with the economy, health care and, by a large margin, financial regulatory reform. And the president continues to get positive marks on his overall job performance, with, for the first time since the fall, a majority of independents approving. (Emphasis added)

Other polls pretty much show the same thing. It’s hard to show up and toss out us Democrats and liberals with numbers like that, GOPbaggers.

What this really means is that the Teabagger Republicans get up, look around, see that their families and friends mainly agree with them and they think that’s a majority of the country. That’s their story and they’re sticking to it too.

They thought the same way in 2006 and 2008 too. The reason that happened? ACORN stole the election. No, really. They actually believed that. Stop laughing.

As much as I’d like to say that we’ll give them more chances to produce even more conspiracy theories after they lose again this November, I can’t do that because I don’t know for sure what’s going to happen this year. What’s most likely to happen is that the GOPbaggers will take a few seats from some Democrats, convince themselves that what they are doing is working and that they should keep it up.

Their secret majority won’t show up at the polls again, but they’ll still insist it exists.

This is good news for us. Let them try to get phantoms to go to the polls and we’ll take the real voters.
