Republican Lawyers Preparing To Sue To Stop Health Care Reform

The sickening display of congressional regressives continues, as GOP lawyers are gearing up to sue should health care reform pass.

“There is a lot of discussion among various lawyers and we’ve had some conference calls,” said Cleta Mitchell, a Washington attorney long active in GOP circles. “People are just distraught that the Democrats are even contemplating doing something like this. It’s utter lawlessness to deem a bill passed without voting for it. It’s horrific.”

It has been well-documented that Republicans have used the same procedures when they were in power, but there wasn’t this kind of bitter outcry from Democrats who respected the process.  Norm Ornstein puts it best by referring this hypocrisy as “feigned indignation.”

One conservative legal group, radio host Mark Levin’s Landmark Legal Foundation, has said it won’t wait for Obama’s signature and will file suit if and when the House adopts the so-called Slaughter rule to avoid an up-or-down vote on the Senate bill. A draft court complaint is already posted on the court’s website.

Courts generally stay out of deciding whether bills are passed legally by the legislative branch.  And Republicans will come to regret whining about rules they’ve often used to their advantage.
