Brooklyn DA: ACORN Cleared; Video Edited To Meet Conservative Agenda

Brooklyn prosecutors cleared ACORN of any wrongdoing after a four-month probe following an ambush videotape by conservative activists James O’Keefe (pictured) and Hannah Giles.

James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles filmed the three ACORN workers as they dished out what seemed like illegal advice. However, according to prosecutors, O’Keefe and Giles edited the tape in order to meet their agenda.

“The three [ACORN employees] had been secretly videotaped on Sept. 15, 2009 by two people posing as a pimp and prostitute, who came to ACORN’S Brooklyn office, seeking advice about how to purchase a house with money generated by their ‘business,'” said Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes. “The ‘couple’ later made the recording public. That investigation is now concluded and no criminality has been found.”

O’Keefe had bragged about his caper, saying “This is what ’60 Minutes’ ought to do,” and “…this is the new form of journalism.” O’Keefe was praised by conservatives and hired by Andrew Breitbart, who said O’Keefe and Giles were “heroes” and “deserve a Pulitzer Prize.” Breitbart now says he didn’t know what was on the videos, but that it doesn’t really matter anyway.  The US attorney for the Eastern District is deciding whether to press felony charges against O’Keefe and three others for allegedly entering a federal office, that of Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu, under false pretenses.
