ACORN No Good; Halliburton And Blackwater Do Fine

Congress rarely acts this swiftly to anything, but they had no problem quickly denying funds to ACORN in the wake of conservative hit videos. No word from conservatives on how many ACORN offices were approached that didn’t buy the prostitute/pimp act.

In a statement over the weekend, Bertha Lewis, the chief organizer for Acorn, said the bogus prostitute and pimp had spent months visiting numerous Acorn offices, including those in San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami and Philadelphia, before getting the responses they were looking for.

If only the left wing had been as successful in stopping funds form going to Halliburton, Dick Cheney’s former company that profited in the Iraq war with a $7 billion no-bid contract, and where $23 billion was lost.  If only liberals were as able in exposing Blackwater, now using the name Xe, the private army for hire known as “The Coalition of the Billing.”

The company, based near the Great Dismal Swamp in North Carolina, was co-founded by Erik Prince, a billionaire right-wing fundamentalist. At its HQ, Blackwater has trained more than 20,000 mercenaries to operate as freelancers in wars around the world. Prince is a big bankroller of the Republican Party – giving a total of around $275,550 – and was a young intern in the White House of George Bush Sr. Under George Bush Jr, Blackwater received lucrative no-bid contracts for work in Iraq, Afghanistan and New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. His firm has pulled down contracts worth at least $320 million in Iraq alone.

And while Halliburton and Blackwater have made billions in foreign war zones, ACORN is a not-for-profit group working in urban America.
