Florida GOP Chair Claims Obama Rewrote Speech; Used To Mock Democrats To Schoolkids

Florida GOP Chair Jim Greer, one of the most outspoken critics of President Obama’s address to schoolchildren, claims, with admittedly no proof, that the president rewrote the speech after the White House “got their hand caught in the cookie jar.”

Suzanne Malveaux asked Greer if he had any inside information that the White House changed the speech.

“No, I don’t,” said Greer. “But I would anticipate, based on this President being so vocal and so aggressive about his vision of America, where government is in every aspect of our lives, I believe that the speech that he was gonna give, based on the lesson plans, is different.”

But while Greer was quite concerned that Obama would spread a socialist view of America to young children, he had no trouble spreading his political views in public schools, reports Steve Maxwell in the Orlando Sentinel (via Steve Benen). He’d tell his son, “Republicans get up and go to work. Democrats get up and go down to the mailbox to get their checks.”

One Seminole County mother, Barbara Wells, remembers the day Greer spoke to her son’s sixth-grade class. “My son said he made some sort of Hillary Clinton joke,” she recalled.

But you know what? Wells didn’t pitch a fit.

She didn’t call up the local TV station to scream about Republican indoctrination.

Instead, she advised her son: “Whatever you are told in life, remember there are two sides to every story.”
