Palin On Cap And Trade: Then And Now

In today’s Washington Post Sarah Palin says she is against cap and trade, repeatedly calling it “Tax and Trade.”  In fact, contrary to what Palin states, Cap and Trade would benefit lower income Americans. She writes:

The Americans hit hardest will be those already struggling to make ends meet.

Andrew Sullivan notes that less wealthy Americans actually benefit.

Cap and trade creates revenue, which can be used to mitigate the costs for consumers. When the Congressional Budget Office did its analysis of the distribution of the costs and benefits of the House’s cap and trade bill, it found that the poorest quintile would actually benefit.

However, when Palin was running for vice president she was singing a different tune, saying she supports emission caps.

QWEN IFILL: But I just wanted to ask you, do you support capping carbon emissions?

PALIN: I do. I do.
