Lastest Right-Wing Talking Point: Obama’s Doing Too Much

Can you imagine what they’d be saying if he were doing too little?  Congressman Eric Cantor of Virginia has found a unique way to criticize the president. He should be putting all his focus on the economy, says Cantor, and not diddling around with health care.

“At the end of the day, we are in an economic emergency. Economists are saying that there’s a 30 percent likelihood that we’re going to be in a depression,” Cantor said. “My goodness, we do have an emergency, and we oughta say, look, priority No. 1 is to create jobs.”

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs refuted criticisms Monday by comparing the president’s aggressive push to tackle issues beyond the economy to those of a fire department responding to a burning house.

“Instead of asking the fire department to pick different rooms in which to extinguish, the president has decided to alert the fire department and everyone involved that we have a responsibility to move this country forward, address the long-term problems and the short-term problems in order to create jobs for the future,” Gibbs told reporters at his daily briefing.

Cantor seems oblivious to the fact that heath care and the economy are inseparable.  Funny how, when the Clinton administration tried to change health care, they were accused of trying to take over one seventh of the economy.  Now Obama is accused of addressing health care while trying to fix the economy.  As Joe points out at Americablog, maybe Republicans can’t get used to the idea of a president who can do more than one thing at a time.
