Here’s What House Republicans Did By Rejecting The Stimulus Package
Brendan Daily in Nancy Pelosi’s office put out a memo on the “Republican Problem” to “interested parties”, saying Republicans are acting in a “partisan and irresponsible manner.” By their vote here’s what Republicans are doing:
- Rejecting tax cuts
- Rejecting jobs in their communities
- Rejecting critical services like health care
And there’s a pattern here: Republicans mismanage the economy and then Democrats step in and have to clean up the mess. Furthermore, in spite of claims that there is no attempt at bipartisanship by Democrats, the fact is they stripped a $200 million provision for sodding the National Mall and got rid of a similarly priced part of the stimulus bill that would have funded contraceptives, in order to please Republicans. Eleven Democrats voted against the bill in the House, but there is more bipartisan support for it in the Senate, with support from Thad Cochran (MS), Susan Collins (ME), Arlen Specter (PA), and Kit Bond (MO).
