Bush Speechwriter Already Blaming Obama For Our Next Attack

Marc A. Thiessen, most recently chief speechwriter for President George W. Bush, has already decided that if/when we’re attacked again it’s President Obama’s fault.  His very first sentence in a WaPo op-ed piece written two days into the new administration is already wrong.  He claims we’ve gone 2,688 days without an attack on US soil.  But US embassies have been attacked in Karachi, Tashkent, Damascus, Athens, Istanbul Yemen, Belgrade and Baghdad, and an attack on a United States embassy is tantamount to an attack on US soil.

Thiessen heralds “enhanced interrogation techniques” (a nice way of saying “torture) as having prevented attacks.

Information gained using those techniques is responsible for stopping a number of planned attacks — including plots to blow up the American consulate in Karachi, Pakistan; to fly airplanes into the towers of Canary Wharf in London; and to fly a hijacked airplane into the Library Tower in Los Angeles.

But American embassies around the world, including Karachi, have been hit.  And Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, often used as exhibit A among those who favor torture, is a notorious liar, so his claims of torture, or what he said while allegedly being tortured, have no validity.

Thiessen also says, “Bush left [Obama] with a stabilized Iraq, where al-Qaeda is in retreat and American forces are coming home by the end of 2011 under a policy of “return on success.”  Oh, you mean the timeline that Obama wanted, but the Bushies fought against?  A stabilized Iraq? Really? Then I guess we can leave right now, since it must be “mission accomplished” if that is so.  Why doe Thiessen go on to predict “disastrous results” if we leave Iraq, given how successful he says we’ve been there?

Bush’s greatest defender told Diane Rehm in a radio interview that torturers are heroes. Three days into his term, Thiessen said Obama is “the most dangerous man ever to occupy the Oval Office.”

One thing those who brag about how successful Bush has been keeping us safe forget one thing: September 11 happened on his watch.
