Israel Ignores International Requests For Truce

Israel is ignoring international pleas to suspend military action to give peace a chance.  Just the opposite, in fact, as more troops and tanks are being sent out to signal a possible ground war.

Gaza officials put the death toll at more than 390 dead and 1,600 wounded. Hamas says some 200 uniformed members of Hamas security forces have been killed, and the U.N. says at least 60 Palestinian civilians have died.

Four Israelis have been killed by militant rocket fire, including three civilians.

France urged Israel to stop bombing for 48 hours. Cease-fire calls have come from the US, the UN, Russia and the European Union.    Israel instead decided to proceed with its bombing campaign.
