Robocallers Quit McCain, Can’t Stand Message

Ted Zoromski was so offended by what the McCain campaign wanted him to tell people when he would call to interrupt them at dinnertime, that he quit his job.  It was a script even a telemarketer couldn’t love.

“You need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge’s home and killed Americans.”

And in West Virginia, a Fairmont State University student named Chaylee Cole lost her job when she refused to say the words in her script and so she was dismissed.

“I was working at the call center,” Cole said. “We got a campaign ad talking about how Obama had been part of terrorist attacks on the Capitol, the Pentagon and a judge’s home and had ties with Bill Ayers.

“Last Thursday, I told them I did not want to read it,” Cole said. “They said, ‘Either you read it or you go home.’

“I told them I wasn’t going to read it. They made me go home without pay for the rest of the day.”

Telemarketing is a thankless job.  Chances are if you’re in that job it’s because you need the money, badly.  It takes a good deal of fortitude for people like Ted and Chaylee to stand up for what is right and lose their jobs.  These are people I wouldn’t mind interrupting me at dinner, even if they were trying to sell me something I don’t want.
