Michele Bachmann Pays A Price For Calling Obama’s Views Anti-American

Days after Minnesota Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann said Obama “may have anti-American views,” and that she wants to investigate anti-Americanism, her re-election campaign is in jeopardy.  Her oponent, Elwyn Tnklenberg, collected $810,000 within 72 hours, almost as much as he raised in the entire preceding year.

It didn’t help that Bachmann later denied making the “anti-American” comment:

“I feel his views are concerning, and I’m calling on the media to investigate them,” Bachmann told [WCCO_TV], “I’m not saying that his views are anti-American.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty didn’t defend Bachmann’s comments but did show her support:

“If you do a lot of interviews, eventually you’re going to say something that you wish you would have said differently,” Pawlenty said at an unrelated news conference at the state Capitol. “It’s just the nature of talking all day. Some words are going to come out of your mouth that you could have said better.”

The problem is that this is not an isolated incident.  Some of Bachmann’s greatest its include:

• We don’t have to worry about saving the planet because “someone did that over 2,000 years ago.”
• Alaska’s caribou “like the warmth that surrounds the pipeline.”
• Almost no wildlife exists in Alaska’s 2,000-mile wildlife refuge.
• She ran for Congress because God asked her to and then “focused like a laser beam” on her race.

And, sometimes, what the Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away.
