McCain Doesn’t Like Taxes, But Should Still Pay Them

When you have so many homes, it’s hard to keep track of all the bills.  Maybe that’s why San Diego County has been after the McCains for the last four years to pay their tax bill.  It’s one thing to default because you don’t have the money, and I’d have sympathy if that were the case.  It’s quite another thing when you have an estimated $100 million fortune and you aren’t responsible enough to pay your bills, and then pay only after the press inquires about it.

Shortly after NEWSWEEK inquired about the matter, [a] McCain aide e-mailed a receipt dated Friday, June 27, confirming payment by the trust to San Diego County in the amount of $6,744.42. County officials say the trust still owes an additional $1,742 for this year, an amount that is overdue and will go into default July 1. Told of the outstanding $1,742, the aide said: “The trust has paid all bills shown owing as of today and will pay all other bills due.”

Can you imagine what the right wing would do if a similar story came out about the Obamas not paying their taxes?
