McCain Mistakenly Links Obama To Carter Hamas Meeting

John McCain would have you believe that Jimmy Carter’s meeting with Hamas is proof of what a bad choice Obama would be for president. But Obama is critical of Carter’s mission.  Here’s Obama’s position:

“We must not negotiate with a terrorist group intent on Israel’s destruction. We should only sit down with Hamas if they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel’s right to exist, and abide by past agreements.”

While I believe Carter is heroic for working toward peace with such controversial players, this may be a better mission for a former president than either a candidate or a sitting chief executive, and we have little to lose by Carter taking to these hardliners.  But attemts to wrap Carter’s visit around Obama are disingenuous.
