Tomas Young Soldiers On

Phil Donahue is now a filmmaker. Body of War tells the heart wrenching story of Tomas Young, who volunteered to serve his country after he heard President Bush stand on the rubble of the World Trade Center with a bullhorn, inspired to go to Afghanistan and get the bad guys. When Pat Tillman left the safety and security of his life because of the patriotism that welled up within him, he lost his life. Young suffered a different kind of death.

While Tomas is alive, gone are his hopes, his ambitions, his dreams, his marriage, and much of his physical functioning.  And while we’re told by the war pushers how much they love the troops and how much those on my side hate them, and America, Body of War shows how they’re treated upon their return, and contains the hope of at least one formerly gung-ho soldier that this will be a tool for counter recruitment. And it further proves that whatever numbers are put out detailing troop deaths, civilian casualties, and life-altering injuries, we’ll never really be able to comprehend the unspeakable tragedy of this war. But viewing this movie might be a beginning.
