Can Talkradio Sway An Election?

I vote no, and that’s a good thing. Michael Hood at blatherwatch has it right. So does Hugh Hewitt fill-in Dean Barnett at the Weekly Standard. In fact, Michael Medved has declared talkradio “the big loser” in terms of what happened in South Carolina.

The far right is gung-ho against McCain and is chomping at the bit to crown Romney. They got high on their own fumes when the immigration bill was defeated, not realizing, as Dean points out, that the audience was already against it. A good host doesn’t try to tell an audience what to do, but resonates with what the audience already feels and believes, even if those feelings and beliefs have not yet been articulated. That’s the talkmaster’s job. The minute we forget that we are in an entertainment medium, we lose perspective and, ultimately, if we’re delusional about our roles, market share.
