And that’s just because he sees the goodness in every person, even Hitler. He was talking about positive thinking, to the Scotland Daily Record, how he wakes up every day, full of hope, trying to infect people with his positivity.

“Even Hitler didn’t wake up going, ‘let me do the most evil thing I can do today’,” said Will. “I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was ‘good’. Stuff like that just needs reprogramming.”

But now, the New York Daily News is reporting that the Jewish Defense League is after him:

The Jewish Defense League said Smith’s words “spit on the memory of every person murdered by the Nazis.”
The group called for a boycott of Smith’s flick, which made $137 million in its first two weeks

What Smith seemed to be saying was not that Hitler was good, but that Hitler didn’t view himself as evil because he was so twisted. And every one of us has some good inside. Is that so difficult to understand?

Smith has clarified his comments, angry that he’s been misinterpreted. Referring to the accusation that was saying Hitler was good,

“It is an awful and disgusting lie,” Smith said in a statement Monday provided by his publicist. “It speaks to the dangerous power of an ignorant person with a pen. I am incensed and infuriated to have to respond to such ludicrous misinterpretation.”

“Adolf Hitler was a vile, heinous vicious killer responsible for one of the greatest acts of evil committed on this planet,” read the statement.
