Appointment to replace Sessions in Senate tied to double sex scandal!

This ought to be fun:

Gov. Robert Bentley today announced he has selected state Attorney General Luther Strange to replace Jeff Sessions in the United States Senate.

Sessions on Wednesday was confirmed as the next U.S. Attorney General by a 52-47 vote and was sworn in by President Donald Trump.

Why did Bentley appoint Strange? A lurid sex scandal involving the governor is the most likely factor:

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley has managed to sideline a key player in the ongoing effort to investigate — and potentially impeach or prosecute — him by appointing the state’s attorney general to succeed Sen. Jeff Sessions in the US Senate.

Bentley, whose second term has been plagued by a sex scandal involving a former staffer, named state Attorney General Luther Strange on Thursday to succeed Sessions, who is due to be sworn in Thursday as US attorney general to President Donald Trump.
The governor, who denies doing anything illegal, now gets to name Strange’s replacement, an opportunity he could use to install an official less interested in pursuing a case against him. Sessions, Bentley and Strange are Republicans.

Strange’s appointment could serve as a reset button for Bentley, who has been under an impeachment investigation by lawmakers in relation to an alleged affair with former aide Rebekah Mason. Some legislators have called on the governor to resign; he has refused.
The affair came to light after Bentley’s wife of 50 years filed for divorce in September 2015.
The impeachment probe by the Alabama House Judiciary Committee came to a halt in November, after Strange asked that his office be able to take over “related work.” State Auditor Jim Zeigler, a Republican, said Bentley’s appointment of Strange under these circumstances “stinks.”

And Strange himself has been implicated in an affair by Legal Schnauzer, whom the alleged “other woman” has sued – though it appears to be all about the money.

Alabama Republican operative Jessica Medeiros Garrison claims my reporting about her extramarital affair with Attorney General Luther Strange cost her about $10 million, according to a transcript of testimony in her defamation case against Legal Schnauzer and me.

In fact, Garrison tosses around copious amounts of curious numbers, all suggesting she has a high opinion of her value as a political consultant/campaign manager. What has she actually accomplished? Well, she got a Republican appointed to statewide office in Alabama. But how hard is that? I probably could scoop up a dead armadillo off the highway and get him elected attorney general if he had an “R” by his name — unless he had been caught fondling Rebekah Caldwell Mason’s boobs.

Heck, Garrison doesn’t even have a particularly impressive won-loss record. She helped Strange win in 2010, but she also was on board when he lost the lieutenant governor’s race to Jim Folsom in 2006. So she’s 1-1 in getting a Republican elected in Alabama? Whoa, let’s print out some money for that girl — she’s special!

And you thought I was snarky. ‘Nuff said…
