Dad who killed 2-year-old daughter said gun misfired during cleaning

Two-year-old Heaven Miller died as her dad was cleaning his gun, and just before her mother went into labor.

Richland County deputies are investigating the shooting of the toddler and her 4-year-old sister as accidental, Sheriff Leon Lott said. But evidence was still being compiled and analyzed Friday afternoon.

“Right now, it just looks like an accidental shooting,” Lott said. His office also is consulting with the 5th Circuit prosecutor’s office.

Deputies who answered the emergency call from the Meredith Square townhouse apartments said they laid the 2-year-old in the yard. They tried to keep her alive with chest compressions and by applying pressure to the wound until an ambulance arrived, according to a sheriff’s department incident report.

Heaven Miller was pronounced dead at 7:07 p.m. at Palmetto Health Richland hospital minutes after her arrival, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said. She died of complication from the gunshot, he said.

Another idiot cleaning a loaded gun, and an innocent child pays for it. How many times do we have to hear this story?

“…Heaven Miller died as her dad was cleaning his gun, and just before her mother went into labor.” so, we have a new baby on the way, and it’s time to clean the gun. as dad kills one baby mother is about to bring another home. so, Mr. Miller, how important was it to clean a loaded weapon?

Although I’m sure I’ll regret making this statement – it’s too bad he didn’t shoot himself in the head instead of the hand, first.

i echo your comment and i won’t regret saying so.

If these people are going to fall in love with their damn guns, I wish they would learn how to handle them. Cleaning a loaded gun is like replacing a headlight with the engine running and the car in gear, at the top of a hill.

So the shooting of two kids was accidental?

    • Larry Schmitt September 3rd, 2016 at 17:12

Of course. He’s such a moron, he forgot where he put the gun and sat on it, and that’s when it went off.

      • whatthe46 September 3rd, 2016 at 17:17

did you read that elsewhere? so, was he cleaning the gun and it went off or just sat it down forgot where? if he sat it down and forgot where, then he couldn’t have been too concerned. i mean if you had a gun, you sat it down walk away then can’t remember where, the last thing you want to do with children in the home is having a gun out where they could find it. well, i don’t know where its at, so, i’ll just sit and think instead of look for it. crazy.

It’s on the linked story. The State, the Columbia, SC paper.
“The unidentified 30-year-old father told deputies that he was cleaning his gun about 6:40 p.m. on the family’s porch when it misfired after he sat on it, according to the incident report and Lott.”

O/T, Trump says that Black churches need better platform, Trump just can’t go somewhere and give thanks, always have to say something negative and wonder why he get low numbers from minorities!

    • whatthe46 September 3rd, 2016 at 17:25

i’m glad he said that. in fact, i’m hoping he says some more that’s even worse about them and the church. why? because those stupid black asses need to understand that he doesn’t give a damn about them and that they shouldn’t have allowed this in the first damn place c’mon tRump, you can do better than that. feed ’em to the dogs. they deserve to be bitched slapped for that stupid move.

      • Tommie September 3rd, 2016 at 17:39

Never thought of it that way but that would be a good thing for Trump to do so people can see where he is coming from! Genius!

        • Larry Schmitt September 3rd, 2016 at 18:13

Problem is, they’re not really listening. They’ve already bought into the “make America great again” crap, and they never hear the stupid sh*t he keeps saying. That’s what leaves us with our jaws on the floor all the time. We keep thinking, surely this time… But no.

  7. bpollen September 4th, 2016 at 01:55

    Negligent homicide. Accident, my ass.

  8. StoneyCurtisll September 4th, 2016 at 02:28

This whole “cleaning my gun” scenario is bullshit..
A gun very seldom needs to be “cleaned” unless you are in a combat situation…(where your life depends on it and it might get dirty and unable to function)..

These civilian fools who “clean” their guns are not actually ‘cleaning them”, they are playing with them, like a toy and someone gets killed..

    • MyDogsAreSmarterThanYou September 4th, 2016 at 05:03

“A gun very seldom needs to be cleaned.”

Tell that to my drill instructor, lol.

    • wpadon September 4th, 2016 at 08:44

The gun needs to be cleaned after use, unfortunately like now. My question now, who will protect these children from their father. What a guppy.

  9. Budda September 4th, 2016 at 06:57

how do you ‘clean’ a loaded weapon (assuming it wasn’t a revolver)?

  10. Böcker September 4th, 2016 at 09:20

Why wasn’t the gun unloaded prior to cleaning it?? I call bullsh*t on the father’s claim.
