Abstinence advocate marries baby daddy

Posted by | June 9, 2016 09:10 | Filed under: Politics

Bristol Palin is now a bride, succumbing to marriage with the man who got her pregnant.

The 25-year-old daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin married her on-again, off-again beau, Dakota Meyer, ET exclusively confirmed on Wednesday.

“Life is full of ups and downs but in the end, you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be,” Palin and Meyer told ET. “We are so happy to share with loved ones the wonderful news that we got married!”

Hard to feel bad for the guy, it’s not like he doesn’t know what he married into.

    • Larry Schmitt June 9th, 2016 at 09:56

Why was this on ET? Since when is either one of them an entertainer?

      • Mensa Member June 9th, 2016 at 09:57

The Palins are entertaining like a rolling dumpster fire.

      • Suzanne McFly June 9th, 2016 at 11:29

Well neither are the house wives, but they are still all over the TV. Some lonely sick people find this entertaining and our producers love to give them something that is cheap and easy.

and car crashed can be entertaining at times.

That is why they have NASCAR.

The Kardashians seem to find husbands although a couple seem like beards. Bristol is no different.

Thanks for sharing sweetie, but we all pretty much know how about the basics of how you got there.

“Life is full of ups and downs but in the end, you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be,” So no one has a choice? If you marry someone who beats you, that’s where you’re supposed to be? That’s a hell of an outlook on life.

Every time I think we won’t have to hear about this sl*t again, I am wrong.

    • Mike N. June 9th, 2016 at 13:11

Hey that’s not cool calling her a slut, even if she is an annoying backwoods hypocrite. Call me the PC police but slut is really a nasty word and not warranted here

Maybe he hasn’t sobered up yet.

Suppose that a young man and a young woman are engaging in voluntary sexual intercourse. The young man is 30 seconds away from climaxing when the young woman says “Please stop now.”.

We all agree that the young man should be expected to stop immediately, regardless of how powerful the urge to continue might be. We all agree that, regardless of how powerful a person’s sexual urges might be, that person is capable of controlling those urges and acting in a responsible way.

Given this fact, why is it unreasonable to assume that young people are not capable of abstinence? Isn’t it really just a matter of motivation?

    • Dwendt44 June 9th, 2016 at 12:10

Feel free to revise your remarks once you sober up.

      • Robert M. Snyder June 9th, 2016 at 12:25

I am sober and it is a perfectly reasonable question.

    • anothertoothpick June 9th, 2016 at 13:17

Sounds like you really know your $hit about abstinence.

      • Robert M. Snyder June 9th, 2016 at 13:22

Sarcasm is what people use when they can’t defend their position with logic.

“Given this fact, why is it unreasonable to assume that young people are not capable of abstinence? Isn’t it really just a matter of motivation?” I think the operative phrase is “young people” so my answer to your somewhat rhetorical question is yes, it’s unreasonable to expect them to practice abstinence. Given the extreme scenario you propose the vast majority of rational, mature, reasoning adults wouldn’t be able to abstain, regardless of motivation.

          • Robert M. Snyder June 9th, 2016 at 18:41

The vast majority of young couples would be able to immediately terminate intercourse if the girl’s parents suddenly showed up. Likewise, the vast majority of adult couples would be able to immediately terminate intercourse if one of their children suddenly entered the bedroom.

The simple fact is that people can terminate intercourse any time they wish. If we didn’t believe that, then we could not hold people accountable for rape if they continue after their partner says “stop”. If a person doesn’t have the ability to stop, then they’re not responsible for continuing.

But of course people have the ability to stop at any time. And if a person is capable of immediately terminating intercourse, then they surely must have the ability to refrain from initiating it. It’s a question of will power.

Are you familiar with the concept of herd immunity? The concept is normally applied to the spread of disease and vaccination. When a single person receives a vaccine, the vaccine does not provide complete immunity. Some vaccines are 75% effective, meaning that if you are exposed to the disease one time, the vaccine is 75% likely to protect you. But if you are exposed enough times, your odds of getting the disease increase. In order to reduce the spread of disease, it is best to inoculate the entire population, or herd. When nearly every member is vaccinated, you odds of encountering someone carrying the disease is minimized, and this minimizes the spread of disease.

Memes spread like viruses. If most of the people you know believe that abstinence is possible and worthwhile, then they will infect you with that idea. The more people believe in abstinence, the greater the herd immunity.

A key reason why so many people are obese is because they do not believe that they are capable of controlling their eating behavior. If we want to help someone to control their weight, we have to convince them that they have the ability to say no to junk food. We have to convince them that they are not a slave to their biological urges.

Likewise, if we want to help someone to avoid STDs and unwanted pregnancy, we need to convince them that they are capable of controlling their sexual behaviors.

The pill can have serious side-effects. Putting a girl on birth control pills is like putting her on diet pills. It may solve one problem, but there is a serious risk of creating other problems. Today we have record numbers of overweight and obese young women taking the pill. This is not a recipe for cardiovascular health.

The best solution is self-discipline. As a society, we have become less self-disciplined than we used to be. As a society, we have lost the self-discipline meme and replaced it with a meme that says we are prisoners of our biological urges. We have lost our herd immunity. We have become infected with a meme that says “You can’t possibly abstain from chocolate, soda pop, or premarital sex. Nobody has that kind of will power, so don’t even try.”.

I reject this new, fatalistic meme. By posting this I am trying to inject a “Yes we can!” meme into the herd in order to displace the pathological “No we can’t.” meme.

We’ve got to stop making excuses for ourselves and for others. We should be building up young people and using every opportunity to reinforce their confidence. We should not be in the business of telling them what they “cannot” achieve.

            • fahvel June 10th, 2016 at 03:27

try it, you might like it – copulation I mean. Lack of any experience should prevent one from speaking with authority -sarcasm!!!

          • Robert M. Snyder June 9th, 2016 at 18:56

I am not advocating abstinence-only education. I am advocating “abstinence-now” education. That means giving young people all of the facts, but also giving them the message that, for the time being, abstinence is appropriate. These other things, like birth control, are appropriate when you are in a committed, adult relationship. That way everybody has all of the information, but we are communicating our confidence in their ability to do what is best. And abstinence is clearly the best option for school children.

Sarcasm is what intelligent people use to emphasize a point. Sarcasm is not well understood by trolls.

        • fahvel June 10th, 2016 at 03:25

sarcasm is the lowest form of humour and no one here seems to be sarcastic – more like sensibly aware that the space between your ears is filled with a combination of atmospheric gasses.

      WTF?

    • bpollen June 9th, 2016 at 16:20

“Given this fact, why is it unreasonable to assume that young people are not capable of abstinence?”

Because you don’t have enough data to make it a reasonable assumption. Anecdotal evidence is NOT adequate for quantifying BILLIONS of people. I could come up with the “reasonable” assumption that people named Snyder are all trolls. But then I would be doing exactly what you are doing – basing broad assumptions on anecdotal evidence.

oh, go ahead. Snyders, at least the bobby m type, are trolls. give them the credit they deserve.

Oh, she finally trapped someone into marrying her. On to more important matters now, I’m going to have twice cooked pork for dinner. :)
