Trooper sued twice for preaching during traffic stops

Posted by | April 7, 2016 12:43 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Religion

It’s safer to drive while Christian in this Indiana town.

Wendy Pyle filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis claiming trooper Brian Hamilton violated her civil rights by asking her what church she attended and whether she was saved during a traffic stop in January.

Pyle is represented by the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, The Herald Bulletin reported.

During the traffic stop, Hamilton gave Pyle a warning ticket for speeding and invited her to his church, according to the lawsuit.

“In order to hopefully end these inquiries, Ms. Pyle indicated that she did attend a church and that she was saved,” the lawsuit states.

““In order to hopefully end these inquiries, Ms. Pyle indicated that she did attend a church and that she was saved,” the lawsuit states.” then why is she complaining? well, she wasn’t so saved that she decided to sue. good grief.

Even a few bible thumping fundamentalists believe in the ‘Separation of Church and State’.

Are you truly that stupid? Was her answer the difference between a warning and a potentially expensive ticket? Get it now?

are you fuckin’ stupid? i would say the answer is YES! my answer would have been none of his business. so what she gets a ticket? it would be dismissed given the facts. so, you pretended to do something in order to get out of a “ticket?” it’s a GD ticket, no gun was being held to her head. even without stating the lie, she could have hired and attorney and file a complaint. sounds like you’d do whatever it takes to get out of a simple ticket. do you GET IT NOW! don’t go there with me.

Cop: “What church do you attend and are you ‘saved’?”
Victim: “What answer will get me out of a ticket”?

Different then a cop asking but; a random lady in a super market once asked me what church I went to. I said I don’t go to church. She asked why not? I told her it was none of her business and walked away.

    Damn church ladies….and churchie cops

I personally think that is unlawful detainment. You can’t simply drive away without committing a crime, so he is using his power to arrest to FORCE you to stay and hear him proselytize.

I would hope that they could see the pattern. I don’t usually have much problem coping with trolls, but the well’s kinda running dry. He needs new material. Maybe those Trump scarves and a pack of Marlboro.

i think you’re right about that. he did detain her and it was unlawful. makes you wonder why he’s still on the force especially when this isn’t his first rodeo.

His ass should be selling insurance or doing boiler room phone sales – you know, unethical stuff. Because Gawd just loves abuse of power.

When under color of authority, an individual’s preaching can be perceived as coercion, because the audience is captive and may feel subject to arrest or harassment if he/she disagrees. I’m a Christian, myself, but I would NOT preach or witness when I’m in a position of legal authority over a given situation and the people therein. This is one example of why we need that separation between church and state. The officer’s motives may have been truly honorable, but Ms. Pyle didn’t know him and she couldn’t be sure what his reaction would be if she had withdrawn herself from that line of dialogue.
At the very least, the officer should be ordered not to witness or preach while acting as an agent of the government.
