Chomsky: GOP No Longer A Party; It’s A ‘Radical Insurgency’

Posted by | December 4, 2015 18:51 | Filed under: Politics

MIT Professor Noam Chomsky says Republicans are no longer a political party.

Chomsky told Truthout that, even if someone like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is elected president, the Republican Party will retain the ability to stifle any attempts to move the US in a more progressive direction for years to come.

“It’s important to recognize that they are no longer a normal political party,” [Chomsky] said in an interview published on Thursday, adding that “the former [Republican] Party is now a ‘radical insurgency’ that has pretty much abandoned parliamentary politics, for interesting reasons that we can’t go into here.”

104 responses to Chomsky: GOP No Longer A Party; It’s A ‘Radical Insurgency’

  1. rg9rts December 4th, 2015 at 19:04

The gopee is the party of me me me …

    • Gina Bousquet December 4th, 2015 at 19:57

That’s what professor Chomsky added to the matter. The party expects to ruin the country as much as possible hoping people will blame Democrats and they may return to power to serve the very rich and the corporate sector. As they can’t say that openly as a platform, they mobilized sectors of the population that had not been mobilized before, like evangelicals and a terrified base so far to the right they are actually out of control.

  2. Boltorama December 4th, 2015 at 19:13

The GOP started going downhill when Eisenhower left office. Isn’t it ironic that a Republican president warned the country about the military industrial complex? The party hit rock bottom when Nixon launched his Southern Strategy.

  3. mea_mark December 4th, 2015 at 19:15

Yup, they have been hijacked by the Dominionist and the racist, they are now a terroristic organization that infiltrates are Government at the highest levels. If there was ever a reason to aggressively pursue those violating the constitution and the merging of church and state, this is it. America should not become a religious state that sanctions racism as state policy through religion.

  4. amersham46 December 4th, 2015 at 19:18

So many single issue zelots , under a single banner

  5. PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 19:28

    Trump is going to win.

Sand Bernardino attacks sealed the deal.

    • mea_mark December 4th, 2015 at 19:30

I give you one thing, you’re consistent. Always on the wrong side.

    • Gina Bousquet December 4th, 2015 at 19:40

In a landslide, just like Romney…

      • StoneyCurtisll December 4th, 2015 at 19:42

Just like he did last time…:)

      • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 19:42

Romney never had this much support.

        • Gina Bousquet December 4th, 2015 at 20:02

Thirty six percent OF the GOP. Is that so much?

        • Tim Coolio December 4th, 2015 at 20:09

Every republican candidate is running on a platform
of Reaganomics; lower taxes for the rich and raise
taxes for the poor and middle class, they all seem to
think that every problem can be solved by stuffing
more money in rich people’s pockets.

    • Tim Coolio December 4th, 2015 at 20:03

He would win with the rural hillbillies but the city folks don’t want to live in a rightwing wild wild west utopia where you need to be armed to the teeth and need to carry a loaded weapon every time you walk to take out the trash behind the garage.

      • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:05

        Keep underestimating the right.

It worked out so well for you in the 2014 elections.

        • Tim Coolio December 4th, 2015 at 20:06

Just like it worked out for you fox-bot people in 06,08 and 12.

        • arc99 December 4th, 2015 at 20:15

You project too much. In 2014, we were all very aware that the election results would not be to the liking of liberals and Democrats. So your admonition is pointless.

But you keep right on with those optimistic predictions.

The polls are all skewed and Romney will win in a landslide.

It is too early to call Ohio

          etc.

Republicans have lost the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 Presidential elections.

In 2016, the GOP will be defending two thirds of the open Senate seats, unlike 2014 when the Democrats were on the defensive.

It is a rule of thumb that whatever Republicans and conservatives predict in an election with high turnout, the exact opposite result will occur.

          • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:41

With these terrorist attacks on American soil the GOP has this one in the bag.

            • mea_mark December 5th, 2015 at 09:24

Only with those whose lives are dominated by fear and irrationalism. The rabid GOP base will vote for tRump and that is about it.

  6. Tim Coolio December 4th, 2015 at 20:04

Keep in mind, every one of the GOP candidates is still
a national security threat to the U.S. and the world
because they are war mongers, job killers, civil rights
killers, education killers, environmental killers and are
a threat to global relations, our former GOP administration
resulted in the needless loss of upwards of 1 million
people worldwide and almost causing America and the world
to experience a second great depression.

    • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:05

Hillary voted for the Iraq war “with conviction.”

      • Tim Coolio December 4th, 2015 at 20:07

The GOTP blackmailed the Dems to vote yes for their illegal wars otherwise they came home to commercials saying they were weak on national security and not supporting the troops!

        • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:15

So you are saying that Hillary is gullible?

Is that the best you can do?

          • arc99 December 4th, 2015 at 20:23

No. The best we can do is point out that the most liberal members of the Democratic caucus in both houses of Congress opposed the war. It is a tragic reminder of the consequences of making the mistake of listening to conservatives and Republicans.

            • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:25

She makes a lot of “mistakes.”

Her war in Libya emboldeded ISIS.

              • Gina Bousquet December 4th, 2015 at 20:27

Hahahahahahaha! The World knows the last Republican government is responsible for the birth of ISIS.

                • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:28

                  Actually BJ bombed Iraq before.

                  • Gina Bousquet December 4th, 2015 at 20:31

I’m NOT talking about bombing, but invading and dismantling the leadership, leaving a vacuum in its place, that was Bush/Cheney doing, THAT brought us ISIL. That’s not even a liberal analysis, voices in the mainstream corroborate that, like the former Special Forces command in Iraq. It was a great displeasure chatting with you, as always. Good night.

                    • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:33

                      Was Bill dropping “humanitarian bombs?”

              • arc99 December 4th, 2015 at 20:30

The pointless war that conservatives started created ISIS. There would be no ISIS if the country had listened to liberals.

The lesson is that in 2016, vote for the most liberal candidate.

                • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:32

Bill bombed Iraq in the first place.

              • Scopedog December 5th, 2015 at 00:33

Please stop. The hole you are digging has reached the damned mantle already.

              • fahvel December 5th, 2015 at 12:22

                idiot!!!!

          • Gina Bousquet December 4th, 2015 at 20:25

Are you so d*mb you think we forgot political context right after 9/11?

      • Gina Bousquet December 4th, 2015 at 20:10

And we all know exactly why. Anyone voting against it at that point risked to be “betraying” the Nation. You’re not that st*pid, are you?

        • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:14

          She lacks better judgement?

          • Gina Bousquet December 4th, 2015 at 20:16

            No, but you do.

            • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:17

Why did she vote for the PATRIOT Act twice?

Hillary served on walmart’s board for years.

              Even Chomsky laughs at her.

              • Gina Bousquet December 4th, 2015 at 20:21

Chomsky laughs at both Republicans and Democrats. But Republicans he doesn’t even consider a parliamentary Party anymore, they gave up politics in favor of obstruction.

                • PhoenixPat December 4th, 2015 at 20:25

His opinion never mattered much to American voters.

                  • arc99 December 4th, 2015 at 20:32

You were the one who mentioned Chomsky..

Then you turn right around and say his opinion does not matter.

                    Classic TROLL.

perhaps others will continue to feed you so you can regurgitate your nonsense. I am done…

                  • fahvel December 5th, 2015 at 12:20

most likely because Mr. Chomsky speaks intelligently and with a deep sense of history, a thing your mini mind seems to lack.

              • Obewon December 4th, 2015 at 21:49

                That’s why POTUS Obama was elected 2:1 53% (D) 365 to (R) 173-Mc’Palin-47%, and reelected 3:2 (D) 332 to (R) 206-Mit’nRyan.

                Ya’ll know POTUS HRC’45 has an 80% probability (4/5) of being inaugurated 1/20/2017? http://www.paddypower.com/bet/politics/other-politics/us-politics?ev_oc_grp_ids=791149
Next: GOP can’t get it up, anarchist party falls flat, failing to deliver.

      • Boltorama December 4th, 2015 at 21:18

Well at least she admitted she was wrong. Bush and Cheney still believe that by invading Iraq the world has become a safer place.

My flashything mindwiper is recharging, or I may have reset the timeline. I think Pat’s comments prove GOP No longer a party-its-a-radical-insurgency.

            • Suzanne McFly December 4th, 2015 at 22:07

All they promote is hate and fear, kind of hard to dress up an ideology that is based purely on weakness.

            • Suzanne McFly December 4th, 2015 at 22:08

              Good catch btw.

      • whatthe46 December 4th, 2015 at 21:51

if i’m not mistaken, Hillary was the decision maker. nor was she the president. lay that blame where it belongs, bushy/dicky. thousands of American soldiers were murdered and it’s on those lying bastards hands.

        and???

    • Jenjen December 4th, 2015 at 22:00

And some of us voted for Obama to get away from the war mongering and unethical practices across the Middle East. Lol
And feel completely betrayed by the Dems, too.

      • Tim Coolio December 4th, 2015 at 22:49

Go enlist in Putin’s or Bibi’s army!

        • Jenjen December 4th, 2015 at 23:08

If I’m against war mongering and the bs across the ME… Why would I join any army?! That makes no sense.

          • whatthe46 December 4th, 2015 at 23:32

what does Obama have to do with unethical practices in the middle east? he didn’t start a needless war. he didn’t create ISIS. the towers didn’t go down on his watch. we have not invaded anyone since he’s been in office nor has he started any wars. the economy is thriving, people have health care and jobs and are able to keep their homes. and you’re no different than war mongers if the b.s. in the middle east is what you’re basing your opinion of the President on.

            • Jenjen December 4th, 2015 at 23:47

I oppose all the actions in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, drones… everywhere, arming ‘rebels/jihadis’ aligning with Islamofascists while attempting to overthrow more moderate regimes, phew, that’s a good start. I’m sure I forgot some things. lol

              • whatthe46 December 5th, 2015 at 00:04

you can’t lay any of that on Obama.

                • Jenjen December 5th, 2015 at 00:36

I don’t JUST blame Obama. lol I blame him, his administration and policies, and of course, congress.

                  • whatthe46 December 5th, 2015 at 00:55

then you’re completely loss. he’s not responsible for ISIS, he’s not responsible for the murder of our very own American soldiers and 100’s of thousands iraqi’s bushy/dicky are and the whole repuking party. he’s not responsible for 9/11, bushy/dicky are.

                    • Jenjen December 5th, 2015 at 00:59

I don’t deny that Bush lied and warmongered his way across Iraq. Lol which Is exactly WHY I voted for Obama. It’s the cr ap that happened since Obama became president, that I blame Obama for…

                    • whatthe46 December 7th, 2015 at 01:27

so, why don’t you just go all out and blame him for slavery while you’re at it. he came in to rebuild the mess that he was left with after busy/dicky. and you expect a miracle? what has happened since Obama became president that’s so horrible?

                  • Hallmark December 7th, 2015 at 00:59

You won’t get anywhere with this, bud. People have become extremely Tribalistic, and cannot bear to hear any criticism of those they respect, valid or not. On a side note, I agree with most of what I have seen you say.

                    • Jenjen December 7th, 2015 at 01:02

You’re probably right. It’s like a bad dream lol :)

I completely understand, quite sad to see such a lack of actual debate and conversation, in it’s stead we see petty insults and evasion tactics.

                    • whatthe46 December 7th, 2015 at 01:25

you mean like the 50+ hearings and suits against Obamacare? you mean like the endless hearings regarding benghazi? the dreaded emails hearings? and you and your ilk should be experts on insults and evasion tactics. dumbass.

Thank you for proving my point.

Let me ask you this, in your view has Obama done Anything, whatsoever, wrong? Has he ever made a mistake while in office?

                    • whatthe46 December 7th, 2015 at 01:22

so, you blame Obama for ISIS, you blame Obama for 9/11, you blame Obama for the murderess war in Iraq, you blame Obama for roof, for mcveigh, for sandy hook, for aurora? hell, keep going and blame him for the Vietnam war while you’re at it. but, don’t you dare blame him for the stability of our country regarding economics, or jobs, or for the millions who are now able to afford healthcare. by the way, there’s cream for your butthurt. get a couple of gallons, you’ll need it for the next 8 yrs.

No, Republicans would not have done the same thing. Instead, we would be at full-scale war by now. So be thankful for small favors.

                • Jenjen December 5th, 2015 at 12:59

I’m tired of being thankful for small favors, it’s complete bs. They’ve been getting away with this cr ap, for way too long. I expect better.

With the GOPs latest attempt to take away our healthcare, what next, will they vote for assisted suicide centers for ones who lack healthcare?

    • weslen1 December 5th, 2015 at 16:51

More like forced suicide for those who “don’t deserve a life”, which would include women, too old to produce soldiers for the plunder of foreign lands, sick children who cost too much and won’t ever produce soldiers, the poor, elderly and all minorities and foreigners, and even white males who may BE white, but have an accent, other than southern.
