Now Knife-Lovers Want Open Carry Rights, Too

Knife-lovers are envious of open carry gun-lovers.

According to State Rep. Harold Dutton (D), his pleas to liberalize knife laws in Texas have fallen upon deaf ears.

“If we’re going to set guns free, I think the first thing we could do is set knives free,” the Democrat from Houston explained. “If the purpose is public safety, clearly I’d rather defend myself against some criminal that has a knife than somebody that has a gun.”

Knife rights advocates did score a small victory this year when Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed a bill prohibiting cities from placing additional restrictions on knives. Prior to Sept. 1 — when the bill went into effect — it was illegal to carry a pocketknife with a locking blade in San Antonio, and Corpus Christi banned knives with blades longer than three inches.

End edge weapon discrimination and everything else evidently. Open carry flamethrowers? Poison gas dispensers? Battle axes? Swords? Etc.

NYC has been pretty egregious on this issue. They have arrested people carrying simple folding lockback knives that are used for everything except stabbing people.

hypocrite, you attacked gray when he was beaten, paralyzed and called him a thug for being arrested for carrying a small folding knife.

      • Robert Smithson November 2nd, 2015 at 20:52

I never said such a thing, in fact I didn’t even comment on that issue. But he was a long time criminal, a drug user and dealer who had many interactions with law enforcement personnel.

Ask Dr. Ben Carson what type of knife he used when he tried to stab his friend to death over a simple dispute.

    Virginia is for lovers.

    Texas is for knife lovers.

Did you see on VICE the UN rep that got busted trying to bring a chain saw on an aircraft

Not so funny things about knives…
In the latest trend in religious violence in Israel..
Knives have killed more Israeli citizens in last weeks than all “missile” fired from Gaza in a decade..
But of course the same death ratio of 8-10 Palistianins killed for every 1 Israeli remains the same.

right on! maybe if the Palestinians were armed like the american open carry people, the scene would be different.

      • Jeffrey Samuels November 3rd, 2015 at 15:38

maybe if they stopped attacking people with knives there would be less dead Palestinians?

      • StoneyCurtisll November 3rd, 2015 at 20:10

I do see more extremest/zealots/and pretty much anyone with more guns is ever a good thing…
But there is the potential “leveling of the playing field”…
But I think that to would result in more blood shed.

Guess I’ll need someone to explain why this is an issue. The Gerber EA Lite is without question 100x”s more dangerous than a long blade and opened measures just over 5″‘s. After that I assume a State Rep has better use for their time.

    • fahvel November 3rd, 2015 at 04:06

after 5 inches, does it become a sword?

      • Darren Graham November 3rd, 2015 at 18:20

What do you think? Does it?

  8. ExPFCWintergreen November 2nd, 2015 at 22:19

Yeah, why should I have to wear a long jacket all the time? It gets hot!

  9. fahvel November 3rd, 2015 at 04:05

big Bowie knives!!!!!!!!!! and just before an attack it is imperative to know how and with what the attacker is armed.

Goin’ down to the Mall, Mom, and I’m packin’ my gladius!

don’t laugh, in most states you can not carry a pair of Nunchucks or a Butterfly knife, but you can walk down the street with a loaded AK-47 and that is okay…..WOMAN are not allowed to have REAL MACE and are stuck with the ineffective Pepper Spray, but their attackers can carry a weapon….

  12. rg9rts November 3rd, 2015 at 06:25

Spare me…you can carry a AR 15 with a banana clip anywhere but get busted if you knife is longer than your weenie…now that is Texas logic

  13. maggie November 3rd, 2015 at 16:46

no one needs to explain why texas is insane…:) I am a poet, don’t I know it…
