The commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan says the strike on the Doctors Without Borders hospital was done at the request of Afghan forces.

An AC-130 gunship carried out the strike in question, Gen. John Campbell said, offering his “deepest condolences.”

The deadly bombing of a Doctors Without Borders hospital in the embattled Afghan city of Kunduz over the weekend has prompted outrage around the world.

The United States, which says it carried out an airstrike in the area at the time of the bombing, is investigating what happened.

But the aid group is demanding an independent inquiry into what it is calling “a war crime.”

Does Doctors without Boarders let us know where all their facilities are at all times? Just asking.

I read somewhere today that Washington knows as well as the Afghan government.

I’d assume, given the nature of their work, that the answer is yes, and in fact, in the current matter, CNN reported earlier today that:

[Doctors Without Borders] said it had provided the GPS coordinates of the hospital to the Afghan military and the U.S.-led coalition days before the attack to avoid it being hit.
