92-Year-Old Georgia Woman Kicked Out Of Her Church For Failure To Tithe

Josephine King has been a member of Bainbridge’s First African Baptist Church for more than 50 years, but she has just been informed by letter that the church no longer wants her. Their reason: She hasn’t been showing up at church or tithing as she once did.

The letter the 92-year-old Ms. King received specifically says she is “no longer considered a member” because she failed to maintain “constant and consistent financial and physical participation.”

Is this a church or a collection agency?

Relatives say Ms. King has been ill for several months and is essentially a shut-in, which explains her poor attendance and failure to tithe….READ MORE at  LiberalAmerica.org

    Priorities.
“Come on people, fork over the cash. Pastor needs a new pair of sports cars …”

    • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 01:02

      Size BMW for each foot.

  2. Mainah August 12th, 2015 at 17:44

And they wonder why people are leaving the church? Wow.

    • whatthe46 August 12th, 2015 at 17:47

so, it leaves the question. if she had died, would they have allowed her services to be held there? it’s fk’n nasty and evil and disgusting.

by the way, she looks GREAT for 96. she has been blessed.

      • Mainah August 12th, 2015 at 18:22

I know. I wonder if they will charge the family retroactive tithing? Oh and the thing about tithing is that it’s suppose to be a tenth of what you harvest according to the Bible. For someone in their 90’s she looks friggin fantastic!

      • Mike August 12th, 2015 at 22:48

Might be an old pic, but I agree, she looks great for 96
I hope I look that good in 30 years.

        • whatthe46 August 12th, 2015 at 23:57

oh, i’m sure you’re just fine now.

  3. Laura911 August 12th, 2015 at 17:44

Because that’s what Jesus would do.

  5. DogsRgoodpeople August 12th, 2015 at 17:56

    Collection agency.

  6. Suzanne McFly August 12th, 2015 at 18:08

Good, now the world sees this “church” for what it really was, a criminal organization.

    • Mike August 12th, 2015 at 18:23

How do you not lose your tax exempt status for a move like that…the entire reason we remove the tax burden from religious organizations is because it is accepted that what they offer, they offer for free….

Guess all that’s changed with the new religious right.

      • Suzanne McFly August 12th, 2015 at 19:23

Well a powerful church will always fall eventually…http://www.nationalinterest.org/feature/the-5-most-powerful-empires-history-12296. Churches have a big voice in our government at the moment because they seemed to have promised one of the parties support (votes) as long as they supply them defense from our government limiting their influence. This Pope has his job cut out for him.

        • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:58

In the late 1840’s, Brigham Young had to promise the government that he would change the churches voting block from Democrat to Republican in order to gain statehood. This was in addition to denouncing and ceasing Polygamy.

          • Dwendt44 August 13th, 2015 at 01:09

            And give up polygamy.

          • Suzanne McFly August 13th, 2015 at 16:14

It never ceases to amaze me how much corruption has been caused in the name of God.

            • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 21:20

I have found my God in the peace of nature. I don’t know where in Hell these Evangelical types find theirs. I think if they are the shysters they seem to be they find their suckers in the elderly and the poor.

              • Suzanne McFly August 14th, 2015 at 12:21

I am a hiker and my church is on the paths through the woods.

                • The Original Just Me August 14th, 2015 at 19:27

And your congregation members are the chipmunks, song birds and of coarse, your puppies.

      • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:55

Oh , those Religious Right Folks definitely want their Tax Exempt status.

    • jstsmlbrlcnsrvtvguy August 12th, 2015 at 18:24

doesn’t reflect all that well on all those other (above criticism, of course) “churches.”

      • Suzanne McFly August 12th, 2015 at 19:25

I grew up in the church and mine was not like this at all. I think this church and similar ones are not true places of worship.

        • whatthe46 August 12th, 2015 at 20:54

when i was a kid, me and my sister and friends (i went to both catholic church and baptist) would go to the catholic church and of course my grandmother gave us money to put in, but, that was never a good idea. we always stop at the candy store and spent every red cent. then we had the audacity to sit in the front row chewing the gum we spent the money on in front of the priest. needless to say, he would walk over to us with a tissue. grandma never knew. oh, and we never put money in the basket.

          • Suzanne McFly August 12th, 2015 at 21:02

You’re no the first or the last to do that lol.

            • whatthe46 August 12th, 2015 at 21:06

girlfriend that was candy money. lol. we were 7, 8 and 9. we would walk to church by ourselves. it was so much safer back then.

              • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:53

Yes , it was safer back then. I was too young to prowl the streets in those days.

                • whatthe46 August 13th, 2015 at 01:07

you are overdue for a serious spanking. just sayin’.

Tease Me, Tease Me, Tease Me.

              • Suzanne McFly August 13th, 2015 at 15:59

I was gone from my house at that age at 7 in the morning and didn’t have to be back until dinner. Mom could always find me riding my bike around the neighborhood or over a friends house if she needed to, but she never had to look for me. It was a completely different world and that was just 30-35 years ago, not a lifetime.

                • whatthe46 August 13th, 2015 at 16:06

same here. when the street lights came on, it was time to head home. and there was “don’t make me come looking for you.” only came in to eat lunch, get water or go to the bathroom. and imagine that, we managed to get along just fine with 1 house phone. rotary at that.

                  • Suzanne McFly August 13th, 2015 at 16:39

Me too………..seems like so long ago but it really wasn’t. The internet changed everything.

          • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:52

Don’t you watch the movies ? You put the fingers of one hand in the plate and tap the bottom of the plate with your other hands finger to make a jingle sound.

            • whatthe46 August 13th, 2015 at 01:02

sweetie, i was a baby. besides, we only had 5 channels at that time remember. no movies to speak of. lol

              • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 01:29

FIVE Channels ! WOW, you lived in the High Class neighbor hood. In 1956, my dad paid $25 for a used TV. He had to make weekly payments of $5. I was only 12 at the time but I nailed two pieces of aluminum tube to the window frame for an antenna. That made dad happy because a antenna cost $5.98 and we were going to have to wait three more weeks to get one. We got one channel but hey, it was Television in all of it’s black and white Glory.

        • jstsmlbrlcnsrvtvguy August 12th, 2015 at 22:56

          and who’s to say what is/are “true… …is that a Puggle?

          • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:48

I Googled ” Puggle” . it is a cross breed dog. It is a real word.

          • Suzanne McFly August 13th, 2015 at 16:06

I didn’t know what a Puggle was and I Googled them. I am in love, they are adorable. The beautiful puppy in my pic is Frankie. He is a “rescue” of mine and is a Pitt. He passed last year from cancer but he gave me the best 8 years of my life.

        • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:46

The Forest Primeval is my place of worship. If I want to know if God lives, I look at his world. if I want to know if God loves, I look at my family.

          • Suzanne McFly August 13th, 2015 at 16:10

I am a hiker and when I am out in the woods with my puppies taking in the beautiful scenery, I discover God. That is my sanctuary, my church. There is so much beauty on the trails I go on and I am with my best buddies and sometimes I let my brother come with me lol.

            • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 21:27

In Northern Idaho. off Hwy 3 just North and east of Clarkia, is the Hobo Botanical Area. That has got to be God’s home.

              • Suzanne McFly August 14th, 2015 at 12:22

                Sounds beautiful.

                • The Original Just Me August 14th, 2015 at 19:24

Somewhere in my computer, I think I have some pictures. if I can find a twelve year old kid to help me, I may be able to post them some day.

                  • Suzanne McFly August 15th, 2015 at 14:43

Be careful how you phrase your statement when you as the 12 year old to help you, parents might want to kick your butt.

                    • The Original Just Me August 15th, 2015 at 15:30

I’m on the internet. I have to be careful how I phrase 12 year old. They are watching .

                    • Suzanne McFly August 15th, 2015 at 23:06

Yup, you might find yourself on Dateline if you keep talking like that lol

                    • The Original Just Me August 16th, 2015 at 10:12

Gee, I haven’t been on a date in a long, long time. I guess that is because I haven’t tried to feed a girl a line in a long, long time.
Does that post make any sense ? I think I’m losing it or I have already lost it. Yup, that’s it.

                    • Suzanne McFly August 16th, 2015 at 12:36

Don’t feed women lines, we see right through them. Just talk to a woman like you would anyone else, discover things both of you have in common and this will give you a lot to talk about. Its not rocket science so don’t psych yourself out about it.

                    • The Original Just Me August 16th, 2015 at 13:34

I never have been a man about town type. I do like to give the ladies an admiring eye and I like to talk and joke with people. Life has been Good to me and I have had a lot of fun in life. That is the hard part. Now days. my wife has dementia and taking care of her is full time. I do miss life’s pleasures. But, I just don’t seem to be able to explore new areas. It has been 12 1/2 years ago when she started into this and her personality was the first thing to change. It was only four years ago that she was diagnosed with this type of problem. The decline has started to accelerate lately so who knows what the future holds. For now, it is the old one day at a time and cling to what we have left. But, I dwell too much. Have a smiley day.

                    • Suzanne McFly August 16th, 2015 at 16:30

I feel sorry for both of you, that is amazing you stayed in there along with her. No sense in dwelling, nothing is gained that way. You are doing the right thing, just embrace each day. Gotta stay positive otherwise you can destroy yourself.

                    • The Original Just Me August 17th, 2015 at 12:54

Life isn’t so bad because when I look at my wife a whole flood of really good memories come back. She does okay most of the time so the not so good times are few enough. It is quite difficult when your love has left in Spirit but the body is still there. It has been along time since we had a full life. When I was quite young, I heard someone say; A man is only as good as his word. That stuck with me and I have always tried to do my best to do what I say I will do. My wedding vows mean a lot to me so, the part of in sickness and health, and in for better or worse, helps me a lot. But enough of the direness. I play on this here internet a lot and I find really Good people to converse with. like you. thank you for listening to my dribblings.

                    • Suzanne McFly August 17th, 2015 at 14:59

Thank You XXXOOOXXX I think that is how they did it in the olden days.

        • Tommie August 13th, 2015 at 02:23

At mine the podium which holds donations was voluntary, basically to give for the bills like electricity and water!

          • Suzanne McFly August 13th, 2015 at 16:16

And that is how it should be.

      • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:42

Above criticism churches ? I didn’t think there were any. Now, some Religions Maybe, but not churches.

      Mafia Sunday Services.

the more i keep coming back to this page, the more pissed i become. i am going to do something i don’t normally do. i’m going to call up this church and have a bitch fit. i wanna know, how old is this “pastor” i wanna know, how on earth can he call himself a man of (cough) GOD and do this to one of GODs children. this woman has lived through hell and high water and he surely hasn’t seen half the crap she has, he surely has no respect for her and i’m not going to stand for it. i would love, love, love to talk to this woman. the history behind her life. why on earth would anyone treat her this way. she dedicated her lifes worth into what she believed was good and to do this to her is madening. sorry for the rant. oh wait. NO I’M NOT. love ya Original.

        • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 09:52

I’d pay a dollar to listen in on the phone call. have fun

          • whatthe46 August 13th, 2015 at 09:56

i called just a moment ago. didn’t get an answer and it didn’t go to voicemail. splat.

            • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 10:00

That call would be interesting to U-Tube. I’ll bet they never answer their phone now.

              • whatthe46 August 13th, 2015 at 10:19

thanks for basically telling me to take a deep breath first.

The pleasure is all mine. I love to admire a woman breathing deeply.

      • Robert Kennedy August 13th, 2015 at 01:19

I used to hold Sunday services at my house as the Church of the Unwarranted Assumption. It was a spoof on the tax dodge, which I qualified for legally, but not morally. Which is why I never claimed it. But we had the funnest church services ever, with lots of activities which would have horrified Huckleberry Huckster Huckabee.

        • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 09:51

The Amish hold their services in their houses. They rotate homes so no church is needed. They are not only interesting and nice friendly people but they do hold to true religious values.

  7. Mike August 12th, 2015 at 18:20

Jebus kicked people out of the church everyday for not tithing…these people who think they can get salvation for free should be arrested for stealing the salvation of others when they don’t tithe. It’s not my job to pay for other people’s salvation, if they can’t afford it, let them just go to hell.

    • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:39

Supposedly, we are all here to prove our worthiness to re-enter God’s Kingdom. Therefore, not one of us can save anyone else. We have to prove ourselves worthy. OOPS ! That is OLD TIME Religion and NOT today’s take on things.

      • Mike August 13th, 2015 at 00:49

It was the same thinking back in the day…I handled my granddads affairs after he passed. He had left $200 to some nunnery because they would pray for his soul.
Have no idea if it worked….:)

        • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 09:48

if you give the same Nunnery $200, then some day you can ask him.

          • Mike August 13th, 2015 at 13:52

            Not a bad idea…:)

            • The Original Just Me August 14th, 2015 at 04:27

Let me know if it works. Have a Good Day.

  8. jstsmlbrlcnsrvtvguy August 12th, 2015 at 18:25

c’mon, it’s right there in the good book: 10% (net 30 days).

    • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:35

Some churches say 10% of your gross.

  9. Dwendt44 August 12th, 2015 at 18:49

Not tithing is the greatest sin.

    • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:34

Praise the Lord and Pass the Tithing Plate.

  10. Bunya August 12th, 2015 at 20:22

What, she couldn’t throw 10 bucks in an envelope and send it to the church, thereby reserving her place in God’s good graces? The Almighty only rests on Sundays y’know. He’s open for business the other six days, and that includes collecting “afterlife” reservation fees from deadbeat parishioners!

    • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:33

I have often wondered about that. God said to rest on the Seventh and Sabbath Day, but that is the day all of the Preacher-men go to work and pass the plate.

      • Bunya August 13th, 2015 at 14:35

When it comes to collecting cold, hard cash, the preachers never take a day off. I guarantee that if you showed up at the rectory door at 2:00 am with a $2500 donation, the fine pastor wouldn’t turn you away – like he would if you were poor and couldn’t afford the required $40 “donation” needed to perform a baptism.

        • The Original Just Me August 14th, 2015 at 04:25

Organized money gathering through the use of religious intimidation. This is Religion ?

  11. Tommie August 12th, 2015 at 23:23

Wow, do not pay up get kicked out of the church, i don’t think Jesus would approve of this action!

    • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 00:30

I’ll ask him tonight at the poker game.

      • Tommie August 13th, 2015 at 02:19

If he shows up, i will not feel so bad about going to Mexico and bet on football!

        • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 09:46

I had a young student once whose first name was Jesus. In Spanish the J is pronounced as a H, therefore, ” Hey-Suss”.

          • whatthe46 August 13th, 2015 at 09:55

            or, “hey zeus.”

            • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 10:04

Thank you. I do remember how uncomfortable it was when I first called his name for attendance. It got lots of laughs from the students. I really felt dumb asking if Jesus was there.

              • Tommie August 13th, 2015 at 10:09

                That’s great! Haha!

Instead of visiting her to see if she’s ok because of her age they sent her something like an eviction notice and protection money demand?

At 92 she likely needs the money for meds or food or both.
“We don’t want no poor folks here ’cause they doen’t have money for the collection plate!”

    • whatthe46 August 13th, 2015 at 01:44

we’ll take your money until you get sick, then “f” you. wait, that sounds like a repuking church to me.

    • Judgeforyourself37 August 13th, 2015 at 14:37

Ah, how these “?Christian” churches do “love their parishioners?” Somehow I do not think that Jesus would be happy with that so called church. I am no Bible scholar, but I do remember hearing something regarding “throwing money changers out of a Temple.”

  17. Um Cara August 13th, 2015 at 08:09

My grandmother received a similar letter, as did my great aunt. It upset them greatly(obviously). I guess it’s a semi common practice. Terrible practice (again, obviously) – but the explanation was that it was primarily oriented towards removing folks who had left the church as there were costs associated with keeping them on the rolls, though the church admitted the elderly should have been excluded.

I don’t think the preacher enjoyed my mother’s or aunt’s response. Grandmother never darkened the church’s door again, but my aunt was too ashamed to admit it happened to her husband (who belonged to a different, wackier church) and kept attending/donating as long as she was able.

Hadn’t thought about that for a while – odd how pissed off I still am. Fuckers

    • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 21:09

Thank you for finding and publishing a phone number that everyone should call.

      • whatthe46 August 13th, 2015 at 21:18

i found the church on google and it gave a FB page. i clicked on it and there were a lot of people that didn’t appreciate what he did. (no surprise) but, then there was one post that said, “this is not the church, blah blah blah,” and gave a link to the “right” church’s FB page, it was down. b.s. it was the right one, it was the only one found in that city and state. and the “pos” “pastor” of that church. non-the-less, i got no answer and no way to leave a message that sucked. ooooh, lets see if i can now. will get back at ‘cha.

        • The Original Just Me August 13th, 2015 at 21:28

Good try. Wait three or four days for things to cool down and then try again to see if they have plugged their phone back in. Keep me posted.

            yes sir.

            • The Original Just Me August 14th, 2015 at 10:10

Sorry, just suggestions from past experiences.

              • whatthe46 August 14th, 2015 at 13:04

there was no need for an apology.

                • The Original Just Me August 14th, 2015 at 19:22

While it is true that there may have been no need to apologize, there was a very good reason to do so. If a man can honestly and sincerely apologize to a woman, it puts the woman in a much better mood and brings out their more friendly side. One of the benefits of being humble. Have a nice day.

                  • whatthe46 August 14th, 2015 at 19:58

i don’t know how to use the keys to make lips as a kiss on the cheek, so, just imagine it. kiss kiss.

                    • The Original Just Me August 14th, 2015 at 23:43

That’s nice. While I was reading your reply I had the feeling of what used to be called an Angels Kiss on my cheek. Actually the medical folks call it a slight tick, but I like Angels Kiss better. Have a Good Night.

  20. Roctuna August 13th, 2015 at 13:54

When I was a little roctuna going to catholic school and church (even an alter boy) the parish provided prelabeled envelopes to the church members for their contributions in the 1st collection each Sunday. Then there was the 2nd collection for the kids where we were expected to put our dimes and pennies in prelabeled smaller envelopes that the nuns gave/forced on us in class. Finally after the sermon/guilt trip a 3rd collection was taken just in case you had any loose change in your pocket. It was money, money, money. Is it any wonder I gave the catholic church the heave-ho so many years ago?

    • Bunya August 13th, 2015 at 14:25

I was also raised Catholic, so I think I can give some insight here….
      .
Here’s a little fun fact. The former Archbishops of Chicago and their butlers lived in a $14 million mansion built along the gold coast. Got that? The Catholic church – which is forever taking up second and third collections at Sunday mass to help the poor – owns a $14,000,000 mansion. Holy shit!

      http://cathnews.co.nz/2014/10/28/chicagos-new-archbishop-wont-live-14m-mansion/
      .
Here’s another little fun fact. Catholic Charities is closing 4 facilities because the new governor will not use taxpayer money to subsidizing them anymore.
      .

      .
Now, I have a real radical idea! Since the new Archbishop opted to live in the rectory (good for him), why not sell the $14 MILLION MANSION, and use the proceeds to help the poor instead of relying on the people who are living paycheck to paycheck to pick up the slack you rich asswipes choose to leave behind!

Yearly pledge cards and weekly contribution envelops was common during the 50’s and 60’s when I was growing up. Not sure how closely that monitored the envelops as they were assigned a membership number so they COULD check if you are up to date on your giving.
      I was raised Lutheran.

The Catholic Church is the worlds largest landlord with huge real estate holding around the world.
