Parma, Missouri voted in it first black female mayor and what happened next is not pretty.

Tyrus Byrd will be sworn in as mayor on Tuesday evening, April 14 at the Parma Community Building.

According to Mayor Randall Ramsey, five out of six police officers resigned this week, effectively immediately.

Mayor Ramsey said the city’s attorney, the clerk and the waste water treatment plant supervisor also turned in resignation letters citing “safety concerns.”

Mayor Elect, Tyrus, Byrd, said she was unaware of the situation and plans to ask questions about the “safety concerns” during Tuesday night’s ceremony.

Mayor Randall Ramsey served the city of Parma for 37 years during two different terms.

He lost the election by 37 votes.

Byrd served as city clerk in the past. She was born and raised in Parma and also does missionary work.

what in the hell do they mean by safety concerns? what a lame excuse.

      • fancypants April 19th, 2015 at 19:13

the safety concerns mr. ramsey blew off and 37 votes called him out for it

        • whatthe46 April 19th, 2015 at 19:22

KFVS reports that after Byrd was sworn in on Tuesday, “the resignation letters cannot be found and that the computers were cleared.”

apparently we may never know ?

someone is hiding something that’s for damn sure.

            • Dwendt44 April 20th, 2015 at 00:26

The history of computer files can be reconstructed if just a casual erasure was done. A serious and purposeful erasure program would make that impossible to get back.

              • whatthe46 April 20th, 2015 at 01:08

they might not be that smart.

      • katkelly57 April 19th, 2015 at 20:45

Their own safety as she was probably gonna find out about a buncha nefarious goings on.

  3. CHOCOL8MILK April 19th, 2015 at 19:10

Hope someone looks into the arrest records and conduct of those cops that resigned.

  4. Foundryman April 19th, 2015 at 19:38

Sounds like “Boss Hogg, Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane and Enos just had their gravy train derailed and are leaving town before they get tarred and feathered.

    • whatthe46 April 19th, 2015 at 19:42

you know what? that sounds so plausible.

    • Dwendt44 April 20th, 2015 at 00:24

Certainly a good reason for an official audit of town books and contracts.

  5. Obewon April 19th, 2015 at 20:00

Mayor Ms. Tyrus Byrd was born and raised in Parma and also does missionary work.
It’s clear who the real Christian is, versus the corrupt who resigned en masse.

  6. labman57 April 19th, 2015 at 20:03

Excellent! They did the town a favor by quitting so that the mayor and her staff would not need to weed out the racists from the police force.

Exactlly, how blantant do they have to be

37 year mayoral stint ended by 37 votes … who says democracy ain’t grand?

  8. Larry Schmitt April 19th, 2015 at 20:08

Sounds to me like the new mayor is better off with a new crew anyway. I hope they’re all single, so their families don’t suffer because they can’t find jobs.

  9. Hirightnow April 19th, 2015 at 20:09

    So?
    GOOD!
Give a shot to all those “others” that haven’t been represented!
(PS: Are these the “Crazy years” Heinlein warned us of?(

  10. Larry Schmitt April 19th, 2015 at 20:14

Our suspicions are confirmed. Here’s a facebook comment from someone in a position to know, on the linked story of the TV station:
Wendy Lawrence Stafford · Site Administrator at Higgerson School Historic Site
They resigned the minute they found out Randall didn’t get mayor again. They all abandoned the town immediately which shows how much they really cared about the town and its citizens and the real reason they quit is due to something other than “safety issues” Their free ride was just cut off. We have been trying for YEARS to get someone to listen to the citizens about the dealings going on and no one until now wanted to listen. TYUS BYRD WE THANK THE GOOD LORD FOR SENDING YOU TO PARMA. The citizens of Parma are behind you 100% and will work with you to restore OUR town.

sounds like a good reason to invite the Missouri AG and US Justice Dept. to do some background checking?

  11. Foundryman April 19th, 2015 at 20:18

37 years with the same mayor is just plain crazy…

    • katkelly57 April 19th, 2015 at 20:42

      Sounds like Chicago.

    • whatthe46 April 19th, 2015 at 21:03

imagine the coruption that’s been going on. yep, the gigs up.

    Rats from a sinking ship

  13. katkelly57 April 19th, 2015 at 20:48

They flew da coop….we don’t need no stinkin’ redneck coppers, a la Blazing Saddles…..”Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges!”

  14. granpa.usthai April 19th, 2015 at 22:31

now would be an excellent opportunity to hire some Military Vets. If any unexpected ruckuses erupt before then, you could deputize the New Black Panthers Party members for security.

    • granpa.usthai April 19th, 2015 at 22:37

      map check:

      in Rush Limbaugh’s home county!

      reckon he’ll resign over this?

      safety concern:

he might shift his seat and cause the gold colored microphone to breach.

      • whatthe46 April 20th, 2015 at 00:33

i bet he’s having a fk’n heart attack! he’s probably so sick over this that he can’t eat. he just might lose weight.

      • Guy Lauten April 20th, 2015 at 15:33

The civil-employee temper tantrum (“I’m not takin’ orders from no negress!”) makes so much more sense with that little factoid, thank you. Boy, they sure raise some emotionally-stunted “adults” in that part, huh?

    • Dwendt44 April 20th, 2015 at 00:28

The size of this city isn’t very large, so it’s reasonable to figure that many of these jobs might be part time. Temp.jobs for some of the clerical work and ‘borrowing’ a few police from other communities could be done.

  15. Robyn Ryan April 19th, 2015 at 23:21

As long as she leaves her missionary work at home.

  16. Robyn Ryan April 19th, 2015 at 23:24

    Sounds similar…..

  17. Warman1138 April 20th, 2015 at 07:08

It would be interesting to see what develops and kudos to the new mayor and the people of Parma.

  18. William April 20th, 2015 at 13:58

Apparently these cops had placed their loyalty in an individual and not a community. Good riddance.

Oh well, the President went through the same thing.

Excellent example of some positive happenings when people vote.

    Well done voters
    Vote racism out

I noticed the village web site hasn’t been updated for some years. No link to the mayor or village council.
